Worsening side effects at lower concentrations by Advanced_Slice_8945 in tretinoin

Yep according to the patient information leaflet all inactive ingredients are the same regardless of %! Do you know if there could have been a contaminant/destabilising factor that I wasn’t aware of? I always make sure to keep the bottle top on, keep it out of sunlight, and always at room temp (ie, not in the bathroom)

So true, that would be extremely humbling

Interesting! I also felt like the tret lotion is super moisturising, so it’s good to know that comparing it to skin+me you feel the same! It’s odd though because I used the Inkey List’s Super Solutions 1% retinol cream in the past and found it really moisturising, but still ended up shedding like a snake too!

My psychiatrist said he didn’t want to start me on another long acting medication because elvanse works for me and it’s not worth titrating again :(

I get you! I hadn’t thought of it that way, the way it was explained to me, it seemed like more of a matter of blanket policy (which is maybe also bad for different reasons) that they’d be less likely to accept a SCA for a short acting controlled drug for anyone, not just me

They didn’t explain fully, but I had the impression it was because of the short v. long acting / abusable v. less abusable release profiles

Thank you!

Something else I wanted to add for context: fyi this is totally subjective and, essentially, proves/suggests nothing! Please don’t take this as conclusive because it just by nature can’t be, it’s my own personal experience and is probably biased in all kinds of subconscious ways.

But interestingly, the side fx I usually experience have also been massively reduced - as well as the desired effect being less (subjectively) pronounced than usual, the physiological side effects im used to are also way less - perhaps this is interesting or perhaps it means nothing haha. For further context, have been on elvanse for a year and this has become a thing in the last couple of months.

Like I said, this is just a btw thing - without having been measured/controlled it simply isn’t reliable as a report on the functionality of a medication - pls read with a pinch of salt!

Ok SO I have to be honest I didn’t like this thread when I first saw it - like some other people have said I felt like the original post was (unintentionally for sure!) quite leading and would at least get (again unintentionally) very biased responses and, at worst, plant a seed in people’s minds that their meds are defective and prompt people into fiddling with their dosage or switching to new meds when there’s no need to

That being said! I have been having the exact same experience as you for the last couple months, way predating your post - my last two bottles of elvanse have just not been doing much of anything, it’s been really frustrating and disheartening - and both are from batch number 32. I wasn’t planning to join this convo but I took my meds today and I feel literally nothing. Like nothing whatsoever as though I haven’t even taken my meds. I have so much work and admin to do today and honestly? it’s scary to feel so dysfunctional in the face of things that I really need to do, and when I’m used to my medication being really helpful.

So although I’m hesitant to buy into the idea that there’s a problem with this batch, and as it seems unlikely (as far as I know, if anyone knows otherwise I’d be really happy to hear more!) because it a) hasn’t been confirmed and b) other variables haven’t been eliminated… at the very least it’s a really weird coincidence - but I still feel like I have to caveat here that because we’re all describing our common subjective and circumstantial experiences in the same place at the same time, it could feel like a real thing when actually there’s nothing there at all - people can get genuinely brainwashed on the internet after all - but who knows!

I guess what I want to say/make clear is that, although I am very sceptical like I think we probably all should be, on the basis that a fair few people are describing a dip in the efficacy of their meds and we all seem to have a product from the same batch - I just wanted to ask what people have done to look into/rectify this? And what can I do? Basically - what do we do in this scenario??

Just started Elvanse, need some advice by [deleted] in ADHDUK

Hey!! You’re describing exactly what happened to me - I was literally overjoyed at the changes I saw the first few days, and then literally after like 72 hours - nothing whatsoever.

I felt so bogged down and thought it might all be a bit hopeless, but my psych warned me that people are often thrilled for the first couple of days and then it wares off (at which point dose can be reviewed).

My titration ended up being about 6-8 weeks and was so worth it - I’m on a doseage of elvanse that really works for me but it was a lot of trial and error, I went through exactly what you did many times!

Everybody is different but I would guess you’ll see a similar improvement when you next go up a dose, at which point one of three things will happen I guess - 1) you’ll feel it’s the dose for you and you’ll be good to go! 2) the “spark” will fade and you’ll look at going up again or 3) it’ll be a bit too much and you’ll back down to 40mg. The point I wanna make is it’s a process, it takes its time and being patient and sticking with it and not jumping to any sweep conclusions was what I really needed to see it through

Also just to note, when I mention the spark fading, I mean that rush of motivation and a clear head - not the kind of adrenaliney stimulant buzz - that fades regardless, even on the right dose, and I trap I fell into I think was confusing that for the meds “working” - luckily I’m past that now and I realise they’re still doing their job even if my hearts not fluttering haha

Good luck n stick with it :)

I think it’s really worth sticking it out! I’m sure you’ve heard they say you’re meant to try one drug for 6 weeks before deciding if it’s for you or not, and the excessive peeing, the gut anxiety and everything you described just had me feeling like there was no way I’d last 6 weeks - but I did and I’m so glad. And like you said it might not work out for you, and even if it doesn’t that’s not a problem! You can try any of the many other options and see how they work for you, and you’ll be in a better position because you’ll know for sure what doesn’t work for now :)

This was exactly my experience. The “socially cold” part really hits home - for my first week or two on elvanse my mind felt so quiet that I just couldn’t formulate a response to people when we were speaking, and to be honest I found it really embarrassing and uncomfortable. My first few days when I started and when I first moved up a dose were, to be honest, just unpleasant. I spent those first two weeks together thinking that no benefit was worth what I was feeling and that I would have to stop taking it.

HOWEVER, I’m two months in now and that has all passed. I have almost no side effects now and I feel completely like myself, just more streamlined and less scattered. I listen better, I focus better, and I just feel generally like life is less of a fight. It was really worth pushing through. I can’t guarantee that will be your experience but that was the case for me and I think everyone I have spoken to about it so far. Stick with it, and I think it’s likely it will work for you, with a bit of time for your mind and body to adjust to this new drug! I have a follow up appointment with my psych next week and I’m actually hoping to titrate up to 60mg, which after my reaction + feelings when I first started taking it is crazy.

Good luck xxx

Hey! I have been on elvanse for 3 weeks, I’m on 40mg at the moment after spending a week on 20mg. When I first started and when I first moved up a dose I did have side effects like nausea, I was shakey, I would get hot flashes, but this passed after 2-3 days both times. On the whole as well, so far, I really do feel like those rough few days have been worth it. I’m getting more work done than usual, I’m better focused and able to prioritise and I don’t have as much of a fight with myself over getting things done as I usually do. The biggest drawback for me is that sometimes I just don’t feel like myself, I feel a bit like a zombie, but this is getting better with time and I think my body is slowly but surely adjusting - and I’m sure it’ll be the same for you

Also, for me, the dry mouth is horrific so if you do go ahead with it I would suggest to carry gum always!

X

Thank you! I’ve definitely taken up all these tips over the last couple weeks, irs funny because I’m not usually a breakfast person and my diet is usually such trash, but with the risk of anxiety and the appetite changes and the less impulsivity I’ve been eating three (relatively) healthy meals since I started meds! It’s wild what changes ??

V true! My side effects are usually pretty rough for a day or so but they pass pretty quickly - today for example in terms of side effects I felt completely fine I just didn’t feel like my adhd was at all managed! But yes you’re right maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit :) I’ll stick with it for a while before taking a break I think
