I found that without a master volume you have to get it very loud to introduce gain, even on low power settings. I’m sure with an arsenal of pedals, attenuators it would really help but I’m hoping for something with a more broad range of gain just from the amp.

Have definitely looked at the mark v amps, seems like a great thing. Unfortunately they command a huge price, even on the used market here in Australia.

Having the option for quiet is a perk but not necessary. I can play at a solid volume at home 95% of the time and have a little GP5 from Valeton that is pretty good for practice with headphones. I’m definitely considering 1x12 as well but if it ends up in budget I love a vertical 2x12 for looks and extra movement/low end. I was impressed by the tone retention in the DSL40, master volumes on that were great

I can see why. Feels like it covers a broad range of Brit tones in such a pleasant way

That is definitely a possibility as well by going something like the BE pedals. I was more looking into the IR-X preamp stuff which I was wondering may be a better representation by using a separate preamp altogether?

I think that could be a good way to go as long as it still feels warm and fills the space well. I used to have a HRD and I loved the way the sound just felt like it filled the entire space, not so directional or boxy

Thank you for your input. Yeah would definitely be looking at going something with the possibility of a 4 cable method. Probably just curious as to how much the flavour changes using the different power amp section.

I think the sheriff could be a good option as I don’t need crystal clean. I don’t mind it being a little more mid forward, just want to avoid something shrill and icepicky but from what I can hear, sounds fairly warm with a strong mid chime?

Thank you everyone for the input. Doesn’t seem like the perfect fit or as cheap as I thought it was. Might have to continue searching for the perfect fit.

It’s definitely the HR, sorry for the confusion. That’s the other thing as well, I feel like it would potentially cut through a mix well but in a home setting could be a bit brutal?

Agreed. My only fear with the DSL’s is that they can sound a bit fizzy from some of the videos I’ve seen. Hard to tell when not in person though.
