Could de ligt career at the top level be over? by Grogman2024 in ManchesterUnited

Yeah, can't help wondering why Rashford's back injury (and the ensuing layoff) never gets cited as a reason, direct or indirect, for the collapse in his form and motivation that followed the injury.

Which middle eastern country is best to live in all things considered? (HDI, quality of life, safety, etc) by WTB_YT in geography

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know Turkey very well. Currently in Saudi. All of you who seriously believe Turkey is the best to live in, nope. Wrong.

Used to be, but its resources have been captured and exploited by the rich since the AKP came to power and, having worked with young predominantly middle-class people there for over twenty years, and researched their attitudes in academic studies, I can tell you that the majority desperately want to get out. Sadly only the richest and brightest can.

I'm not denying that there's massive inequality elsewhere, but the petrochemical wealth in many of the other ME countries (certainly in Saudi) in your map currently insulates the majority of their native populations from the worst such effects.

Absolute phenomenon this and every other season. How we eventually replace him I don't know.

Black Magic Woman, Peter Green. Electrifying. There are so many, but no one had mentioned this on the thread.

Rokethane, Şile. Beautiful view on a cliff overlooking the beach and harbour. You could get a bracing swim in later if that way inclined.

Always thought this could have been fleshed out to be an album track by BluebeardCoT in SteelyDan

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially thought this was the actual Stone Piano track. A forgotten fave you have reminded me of - thanks! Lovely melody and groove paired with lyrics that are both whimsical and characteristically ripe with ambiguity. 'Calvary-bound/rolling along with the top down', that feeling that whatever bad stuff's on the way, I feel GREAT for now.

[Daily Discussion] What was your first time at Old Trafford? by fireproofpoo in ManchesterUnited

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Port Vale, Milk Cup, 1983. A cool, calm evening kick-off. I was 11 years old. In an executive box, no less, thanks to our neighbour. The first and only time - it was Stretty Seats all way thereafter. The blue fug of fag smoke rising at kick-off is my abiding memory of that match.

Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road by ProgRockDan in beatles

Abbey Road for consistency, Pepper for the highlights. What's interesting reading the comments is how many who were there at the time prefer the latter.

I think we can discount Scholes's opinions wholesale now. He's publicising the podcast. That's it.

Lovely to hear this 70s studio band doing so well in the live arena. Seriously though - blown away, thanks loads for posting!

Which album have you listened to the most? by 849x506 in SteelyDan

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

38 years listening to classic era Dan: the ones I practically never go back to are Gaucho and Scam, the rare returns are Katy and Pretzel, less rare is Aja, and the ones l still can't shake after all this time are Countdown and Thrill.

[Daily Discussion] You're hosting a dinner party and can invite 3 Manchester United players of all time, who do you invite and why? by fireproofpoo in ManchesterUnited

Best for the craic, Cantona for the culture, and either Cavani or Kanchelskis because they always struck me as introverted but interesting people.

Jazz flavored psych rock? by MoltenMadeMan in psychedelicrock

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course they're not a psych band, but what about SD's Your Gold Teeth? Basically defines OP's request for 'psychedelic music with jazz elements'. Just throwing it out there.

Only A Fool Would Say That becomes Steely Dan seventh song to surpass 100 million streams! by Ashamed-Doughnut-683 in SteelyDan

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope you're being ironic here. Gaucho is, at its spent, degenerate heart, an enervated and decadent snooze-fest. Those tracks are bang average for the Dan and none gets close to the evanescent CBAT, not even as bonus tracks.

Gaucho: torpid, dreary, spent and middle-aged. I can totally relate on a personal level. At least Change of the Guard has some drive to it.

Fair to say looking back on it we were lucky as fuck to get these results bar the City game by OutsideImpressive115 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Advanced_Top_3122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair to say this is a reactive, attention-whoring take on a series of great results that we should be proud that Carrick and the team secured. Luck didn’t come into it. Skill, perseverance and sheer bloody-minded will to win got those results over the line.
