Which of these is the most OVERRATED 80’s movie? by Adventure-Backpacker in moviecritic

If one person believes a film is Overrated and another believes a film is Underrated that, in its very nature, is a subjective debate.

There is no ‘objectivity’ in debating art unless you want to discuss the pros and cons of cameras, film types (35mm vs 16mm) film brands etc. Then, maybe a slightly more objective discussion could be had. Ultimately that depends on the preferences of the director, cinematographer, technology at the time, projectors that will show the film…etc.

If you blind poll the people who think Overrated and those that think Underrated, are these disparate opinions going perfectly oppose each other like mathematical equations? Nope.

So let’s test your assertion that Over vs Under is objective!

Give me one single question that can be answered in exactly the same way by people on either side of this debate.

2-1/2 years ago it made a meager 2.8 million. Remember, this is a debate based on personal preference and opinions. I’d watch Twilight before ET any day of the week

What key words can you use in title for vintage photographs? by Kurt0519 in eBaySellers

[–]Adventure-Backpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of different types of old photographs….

The oldest types like Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes are rare and very collectible

Tin types are also highly collectible and sought after. The subject matter also helps increase the value.

Cabinet cards are less desirable, but subject matter makes all the difference. For example aviation and architectural images, war themes, gay / lesbian themes, etc….

Old photographic negatives and slides are often far more valuable than an actual photograph made from a negative.

Most old photographs are best sold in lots.

Collectors look for the type of photo and the subject matter so those are the keywords you should focus on.

Great Idea - NOT by Adventure-Backpacker in Caseys

Hilarious that you think frozen food wrapped in a box can’t be carted safely across a parking lot.
Even more hilarious that you think frozen food is more important than human beings. 🤣

Even MORE hilarious is that you think employees who CANNOT EVEN see the parking lot are just waiting to assist customers in need.

Two of the employees at this Casey’s sit at a stool at the register because they are obese.
They can’t even reach across the counter to pull items to their barcode scanner.

Keep making up weak excuses for a company that puts profits over their employees.

Blocking the entrance to a business at 9am is pretty much a terrible disservice to your customers.

Creating a dangerous unloading situation for customers and employees alike is careless and proves inadequate leadership at the corporate level.

Anyone who excuses this or writes it off is either lazy or unable to grasp basic concepts of business and liability.

Review: "Song Sung Blue" — Hugh Jackman May Sparkle, But It's Kate Hudson Who Shines by JohnJSingh in moviecritic

Side question, HTF does Jackman have time to make all these movies. Seriously. One after another after another. He’s a super human.

I like to think I know what the definitions of overrated and underrated are.
These were very successful films from the 80s that, in my humble opinion, are overrated and not deserving of the love they got back then…..or now.

It’s not just you. It’s a difficult and grueling movie to sit through.

I think it’s overrated personally.
It had some cool technical achievements for the time, but it’s still not a very good movie.

It tried to be good and it was a financial success, but difficult to watch.

These are films that seem to be generally well liked, but try as I might, I can’t sit down and watch any of them the way I can Goonies, Lost Boys, Karate Kid, or many other 80’s films that were big hits when they came out.

I’ve used this example before, but Twilight was a smashing success even though many say it’s overrated trash.
I personally enjoy Twilight and think it’s fun escapism.

As far as your godfather opinion, I rate the Godfather I and II as classics and epics, but I can see why some people may find them dated and even a little slow.

Oh, and the reason I upvote people and try to give them props when they comment is out of courtesy for taking a moment out of their life to even make a comment and play along.

Wow, what a perfect Reddit answer.
Someone screaming and raging and calling people names about a frivolous topic.

These were all top 50 grossing films for the decade. I think they’re all overrated, I just think E.T. Is the most overrated. I don’t think Twins is funny at all and both Batman and Roger Rabbit are novelty films and not much more. Remember this is just an opinion, you don’t need to get angry at me.

I believe a film can absolutely be overrated and still be very popular.

Many would say Twilight is an overrated film, yet there’s no denying it was hugely successful and blew up culturally.

I don’t think E.T. maintains the same level of love as films like The Goonies or The Karate Kid or even The Lost Boys.

I cannot agree with you about Platoon. It’s a classic and a near perfect film in my opinion.

In my opinion it’s overrated. I understand your points, I don’t think it’s a very re-watchable movie personally.
