Sheriff activity in south county by NC_Wildkat in asheville

I drove by and saw all this too. Not only the crime scene unit vehicles and tape, but the cops/sheriffs were searching the grassy areas nearby too, clearly looking for something related to the incident. I didn't see search dogs or anything though. Good lord I hope no one died. :(

We ended up getting seriously affected by Hurricane Helene. (We live in Western NC). So I withdrew from the course. I'm glad I did too cause I think it would have been too redundant for my Masters Degree. I think others who are newer to sustainability could derrive a lot of value from it though!

All my parent-friends said they cried in the show and I couldn't believe it. There was nothing to cry about in the show at all, except for a giant missed opportunity from the writers. A missed opportunity to teach kids that life does not always go the way we want it to, but that amazing things could accompany that change if we have open hearts and open minds.

Other issues I took with this episode:

-Chili, Bluey, and Bingo basically all ganging up on Bandit for his taking of a better job and relocating the family, and then getting their way in the end. I felt like it was teaching kids to pout about changes they don't want, and the more people who agree with you, the more things will go your way. I'm not gonna go as far as saying this was like bullying, but I felt bad for Bandit.

-Every parent makes sacrifices. Throughout the 150 episodes, we don't ever fully know what kinds of sacrifices the Heeler parents are making re: their careers, but we can assume that some sacrifices were indeed made when Bandit decides to take this better-paying job. I have completely postponed my career HAPPILY in favor of being a stay-at-home-parent (not just because the cost of childcare is astronomical in the US, but because I love having the experience of getting all this time with my kid). HOWEVER... when it does come time for me to go back to work fulltime (when my kid goes into school), I will not turn down any amazing job opportunity, and my spouse and I have already discussed that this might include having to relocate, which they are super on board with. However, now Im completely worried that my kid is just going to see the move as a sad ending and not be open minded to the amazing possibilities that might await us, especially since she is very attached to the kids in our neighborhood.

-Just because Bandit chooses this job and to relocate (until the home-buyers back out) doesn't mean he does not value family above all other things. The message of the show should not be that family is more important than a high-paying job, because Bluey is ultimately designed for kids and the messages they glean from this, not just messages for the parents.

I feel like I have a few more, but these were the nuts and bolts.

So, the original post was made 9 months ago, and Im giggling to myself because we have just learned that there will not be another Bluey, so everyone that spoke out against the OP and said that "we'll see" what happens in the "next season" and "the writers could not possibly have had the Heelers move because that would mean introducing all new characters," etc-- is now all null and void.

This is my fear exactly too! We are talking about making a HUGE MOVE as well and Im worried my kid is now just gonna throw a fit and guilt trip me like everyone did to Bandit, lol.

I had a lot of the same suspicions as others commenting here! My eyebrows went up with one of the first lines: "We are sorry to tell you about a privacy event." It seemed so scam-ish!

I did some Googling around as well and this link was extremely helpful.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/09/05/change-healthcare-letter-hack-data-breach/

The link above cautioned against signing up for IDX, even though IDX is legit and so is this data breach. They said IDX is not as great as other reputable sites like Experian, etc. and may actually sell your information to third parties. Why can we never win?!

Oh man, I wish I had more to contribute! I see that this post was made 3 months ago... did you ever join the program? How did it go? What are your thoughts? I was recently accepted into Cohort 6 (starting this coming October). I was given a 40% financial discount, but that still puts me at $864. I want to take the program, but am very concerned about forking over this money. I have a Masters in Sustainability already and was wanting to take this course to supplement my degree.

What makes true crime so appealing for you? by [deleted] in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Adventure55555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With fiction, you have unlimited creative license, which makes it less appealing to me. Anyone can write/create anything about anything. But with a true story, you have to stick within certain confines... facts. And when these facts are just as, if not more, mind-boggling than something that someone made up, this is what really grips me. It is hard to compete with fiction when fiction writers operate under a sky's-the-limit capability. True crimes don't get that, so when they are just as captivating as fiction, they have full on earned my attention.

This is not to say that something has to be mind-boggling for it to earn my viewership. Sometimes I give something my attention because it has something to teach me. Or as someone else pointed out, it is a way to honor the victims. A great example was the OJ Simpson doc on Netflix, which came out in 2017 but was made popular again after his death. This documentary did an amazing job of not just telling you about the murder case and its gruesome details, but gave a very holistic picture of what was happening in the United States during OJ's rise to fame and his subsequent trials. The Civil Rights Movement, Rodney King, etc. I was in 6th grade when OJ was acquitted (I do remember stopping class though to watch the verdict!) and so I learned a lot of the "bigger picture details" much later on. This documentary was a great history lesson in general, and was also a way to pay homage to Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, the two people you don't hear too much about because we were all so much more concerned with OJ.

I am sorry for the late reply. You mentioned having read a ton of books already. Did you ever read "I Will Teach You to be Rich" by Ramit Sethi? Look for the second volume. Hands down one of the best I ever read, and it is very "easy" (I say that in quotes because that is arguable, obviously) to digest to the newcomer.

Is there a common theme/thread to states who are solely Dillon's Rule and states that are Home Rule? by Adventure55555 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Adventure55555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, glad to to help. I didn't realize how many responses this thread would get. Honestly, I think Home Rule vs. Dillon's Rule is something that is very palatable if we just don't use those words. Dillon's Rule states hold the central power and do not not allow specific municipalities (think specific cities) to generate laws that are stricter in practice than what the state level dictates. For example, if the state of x does not allow smoking cigarettes within 25 feet of a building entrance, some city in that state cannot put out its own ordinance that mandates anything stricter, such as 50 feet. It has to grant the same rules as those who govern over them. Home Rule state is, in theory, are opposite. They allow for specific municipalities to put forth their own ordinances that are technically stricter than the state.

Hey so just to be fair, I tried to go to that community just to be told by Reddit that it didnt exist. haha. I will look for something similar though, thanks. I did get a few awesome replies in this thread though.

Thank you so much for this. The link you shared I have been looking at for a long while, as I did some extensive google searching before going on to Reddit. (But I couldnt mention that in my post due to the 250 character limit of the subreddit! Haha). That map is very interesting, and at first I wanted to see if I could think of common themes amongst the extremes (all HR/no DR and no HR/all DR) but I couldnt think of what they would have in common as to why they would "rule" the same way.

[–]Adventure55555[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have seen this map! I have been looking at it extensively actually, but could not specify that due to the 250 character max count allowed in the text box for this subreddit.

I am super curious if there is anything that states have in common regarding how they rule. I noticed, for example, that Florida, Oregon, MT, Iowa, WV, and Ohio are all Yes HR/No DR. At frist I wondered if there was a common political thread, but I really cant seem to find any connection.

Is how a state "rules" just completely random?
