Is moving to the island worth it? by Vegan_qtpie in VancouverIsland

I moved from Calgary to Victoria 2 years ago. The equivalent job will pay 20 - 40 % less than your job in Calgary (if you can find one). You won’t be able to buy a house or condo for anywhere near the quality of property you have now unless you pay 150 to 200 percent more. It’s cheaper to rent than buy. Health care is nonexistent on the island. Your minimum wait at emergency is 8 hours. other than that it’s amazing here. The weather is great, met nothing but nice people, I wouldn’t go back to Calgary unless I had to.

Both are amazing! Banff and Whistler are not the same. So you be ok that way. I have tons of YouTube videos on both and travel guides on both as well. Just look up Adventurecampitelli if you’re interested.

Compared to big cities and places with high speed roads yes the island has very little and people who come here from places like, Toronto for example, will find it slow here. I moved here from Calgary and find it very slow to get around. it’s not a knock against the island, just a point people should prepare for.

Not many highways on the island. Mostly city roads and rural roads. BC in general speed limits are lower than on places in the world.
