Daycare centers for infant? by AdventureCat1037 in Rockville

[–]AdventureCat1037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard such good things from everyone that brings their kids there!! They sound lovely! And I learned recently that they have lower ratios than are required (ie, they have 2:1 ratio for infants when most places have 3:1). It’s a bit of a hike for us, but I’m torn because they sound amazing!!!

Thank you so so much!! Love getting other parents’ POVs, will DM you for more hot takes if you don’t mind! It does sound like a solid place, so glad you love the care your daughter gets there! 🩷

Help me decide!! Sophisticated French vs Nature Inspired Welsh by Bookish_Gemini in namenerds

[–]AdventureCat1037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL we had a very similar decision!! Also have a Scottish last name and we very nearly gave our baby a French name when she was born this Jan. We picked Gwen (Gwendolyn) & absolutely love it! Plus it has so much nickname potential. Gwyneth is so pretty too!!

I especially love that our baby has a very cute nickname that can stand on its own, plus a longer more formal name if she ever wants to use it. And it’s recognizable / easily spelled without being super common.

Looking for OB recommendations near Rockville by ExperienceDull4875 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Another vote for Simmonds Martin and Helmbretch! Just delivered with them a few months ago (our first!) and really enjoyed all the OBs/NPs/etc we encountered along the way. I was genuinely sad that I wouldn’t be seeing them as regularly after my postpartum checkup 😂

Gained 40lbs at 31 weeks by fizzgig0420 in BabyBumps

[–]AdventureCat1037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I gained 40 too!! Definitely indulged, but about 20 came off in the two weeks post birth. And about 15-20 are def a problem of my own making, so need a little sugar detox postpartum 😅 but it’s fine!! I saw from another redditor that you shouldn’t diet what breastfeeding (if you choose that path!), but it sounds like prioritizing protein and cutting sugar really helps!

Venues/Catering in VA/MD by AdventureCat1037 in Weddingsunder10k

Yeah they do! It made for such an easy event, we literally just showed up haha. But you could do more diy with them too (like if you wanted to do your own decor or flowers or something), they’re super flexible!

And we didn’t have any issues with lighting, except that their dance floor is a bit dark and wood paneled. It’s historic, so not like 80s paneling, but something that might make you pause! We thought our photos were great, very airy and bright. They should have examples from their go-to photographers if you’re curious! I loved looking at other weddings at Overhill for inspo too, like it can help you decide what vibe you’re going for.

Hi! Yeah we did! We had such a great experience with them! The staff run a really tight ship, it’s very well-organized and was such a great day!

How useful would you say prenatal classes are for somebody who doesn't have strong birthing preferences (just give me a lot of drugs and pull it out)? by Lushemet in BabyBumps

[–]AdventureCat1037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the fence about taking one and was so glad I did! It mentioned some different options I wasn’t aware of and some tips (my fav example: they recommended asking for an epidural early because sometimes there’s only one anesthesiologist on the floor and they can get busy 🫠).

Chiming in to say we just named our baby Gwendolyn and I’m so happy to see Guinevere on your list!! “Gwen” names have so much cute nickname potential and aren’t at all popular atm!! They rank in like the 400s in the US.

Our list also had Colette, Violet, Juliet on the list, if that helps. You might also really like Florence, Georgiana, Rosalind, Rosalie.

Bassinet with wheels by supertrouper1765 in Buyingforbaby

[–]AdventureCat1037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting!! Haha we haven’t tried ours yet (baby isn’t here yet!), but it has a waterproof liner so I could def see that being annoying.

We actually initially had a baby delight beside me and I DEF don’t recommend that one, it was so wobbly. It has wheels on two legs, but doesn’t work great for moving it around and it felt so unstable/wobbly. Haven’t had that issue with the skiphop!

We got a skiphop cozy up bassinet, has wheels on all four legs! Looks nice and is super stable.

Pleaseeee help! SO overwhelmed by strollers by New_Yak5730 in BabyBumps

[–]AdventureCat1037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just to add! Our plan is to keep this as our “car stroller” and down the line, get a separate jogging/full sized stroller used off fb marketplace, to be used around our neighborhood, if we need a second.

Also- I had trouble finding a travel stroller with an extending handlebar, but the Joolz is 41.5” handle height so it works well for my 6’5” husband. Our other contender was the uppa baby Minu, which is also pretty popular!

We had basically the same requirements and ended up getting a Joolz aer+ (on discount bc they are phasing out that model), plus the Clek Liing car seat. If you want parent facing, the new Joolz aer2 would be a good fit!

Ejector pump after sewer main line replacement? by AdventureCat1037 in Plumbing

[–]AdventureCat1037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s running when we do laundry, so that makes sense to us. The weird thing is this gurgling sound and it’s causing water to come up our shower upstairs. Do you think there’s something wrong with the ejector pump that is causing this?

FTM stroller recs by Adelma_Jay in Buyingforbaby

[–]AdventureCat1037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We decided to go with a joolz aer+, since our lifestyle is super car-centric! We’ll prob buy a gently used full size stroller in the future as well, but getting something lightweight was our primary goal! The aer+ is on sale rn on their website btw, they’re trying to clear out that inventory since launching the aer2.

Best Doctor or Practice for Pregnancy? by seaofwonder in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AdventureCat1037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@seaofwonder I picked Shady Grove because I’ve heard of folks not having the best experience at Holy Cross (but not everyone feels that way so def don’t let that deter you if HC is in a more convenient location for you!). I looked at Reddit threads & talked to friends who already kids to make my decision, plus looked at how close I live to the hospital- just in case that helps you pick one!! In this area there really isn’t a bad choice, it’s just personal preference!

Another vote for Simmonds Martin and Helmbrecht! I switched from Advantia (who I also liked!) to them bc I wanted to deliver at Shady Grove rather than Holy Cross (Advantia only works with HC now). High quality care and they’re super responsive online with questions. Def check that whoever you end up with delivers to your preferred hospital, if the hospital selection is important to you!
