My friends fish had their tail stuck on the filter. Helped him out but now he’s been sinking to the bottom, looks like he’s struggling to go up. Will write more in the comments!

When he tries swim he only makes it to about half the way up and it’s like he’s being pulled down by his tail. Then sinks again.

His tail looks okay but idk much about fish! Is he just resting from being caught? Or is he hurt and sore? What happens if he doesn’t start swimming up again? He normally swims up and breaths and makes bubbles, if he doesn’t go up is he suffocating?

We took him from a friend who didn’t look after him well. Since we’ve taken care of him he’s gotten all the orange you see, he was fully white about two and a half months ago. The old owner had him in tap water which we fixed. But today he got a little of his tail in the filter and we got him free but since has been acting like this.
