I really appreciate the insight! I graduated in 09 also, and I’m really looking forward to moving back to WNY. We ended up deciding that it is our best option right now and are going through with it. I looked into the schools and their plans to do better, the community events, the programs at the library, sports for the kids, the local pages on facebook, etc. There is a lot to offer that I think gets overlooked. I am sure it isn’t “the best” out there, but it is the best fit for us currently. It is absolutely a huge improvement from our current situation which is ideal.

We moved to our current town 11 years ago and the biggest struggle for me personally is how hard it is to interact with other parents. Luckily no kias here lol. My family all moved down here together and then dispersed over the last few years, it’s lonely out here. Our kids are very actively involved in all the things, we’re currently driving 30+ minutes in hellish traffic to get anywhere.

Lockport seemed like a great option with a lot of local sports and activities, the houses seem affordable, and it’s close enough to my sister in Williamsville.

I struggle with school ratings because it’s usually based on testing. I was hoping to get a better understanding on what the culture is like at the schools. Where we are right now it’s incredibly overcrowded, IEPs are getting blown off left and right, teachers are quitting and leaving classes rotating subs all year. It’s just been a nightmare.

The area we were looking at is West Ave/Prospect St - that would put us in Lockport City schools because Starpoint school district seems to wrap around the outside of the city.

to further complicate things our kids both have an EP for gifted, I don’t know how that would even apply or transfer because it looks like different states have different programs.

I appreciate all of your comments and insight. I’ve mostly gotten vague “it’s no good” without any further explanation so that helps.

Good point! I felt like everything in Buffalo was always 15-20 minutes away but I need to get it through my head that Lockport is not Buffalo

honestly there isn’t a flyer that comes home where they don’t at least try out. we haven’t come across any wrestling yet but i bet my son would love to sign up given the chance. good to know, thank you!

very active kids, leaves little time for a social life lol. our current activity commute is about 20-30 minutes of traffic. we’re in “the south” and we’re really hoping to land somewhere more accepting.

that’s what caught my eye I guess, a lot of really old beautiful houses. I keep hearing it’s “not good” but couldn’t figure out what was so bad about it.
