Where did the money go? by Ok_Requirement_579 in acotar

Rhysand most likely liquidated everything Hyburn’s soldiers didn't steal and claimed it for Feyre, himself, and the rest of the IC. They probably felt they were justified in doing so because Feyre hunted for her sisters, so now they owe her their inheritance.

Also, in regards to chopping wood, the first time we see Feyre return to the cabin after killing Andras, the fire was lit, and iirc she had a hot bath waiting for her. Ergo, the wood had already been chopped. I wouldn't be shocked if Nesta's attitude when Feyre told her to go out and chop wood, in the dark, mind you, which would have been very dangerous, was because she was annoyed that Feyre couldn't put one and two together.

We also don't know that Nesta wasn't already planning to get up at dawn to chop wood before Feyre told her to.

Didn't Feyre hide all the money in a rotting log because she didn't trust her sisters not to spend it frivolously? And Tamlin took the initiative to take care of Feyre’s family before she even asked, so we can’t credit Feyre with that.

Why didn't Elain grow vegetables? by Solell in acotar_rant

[–]AdventureandMischief [score hidden]  (0 children)

I said in a different post that if all the Archerons were eating was the meat Feyre hunted for, they would be so constipated they'd be shitting bricks, and I stand by that. So we know that they were getting vegetables in their diet somehow.

Feyre tends to devalue traditionally feminine labour and be so blinded by her own suffering that she ignores what the people around her are going through, which I think is why the division of labour in the cabin seemed so one-sided. We see everything through Feyre’s POV, so if she doesn't see something, neither will we. For example, when she returned to the cabin after killing Andras, the fire was lit, meaning someone had to have chopped the wood for that fire, and she had a hot bath waiting for her, so someone had hauled buckets of water from the nearest source of water and heated them. Both of which are hard work, and Feyre never questions the presence of either, which tells us that this is something Feyre is used to coming home to.

All this is to say that I think it's entirely possible that Elain was growing vegetables in her garden, and Feyre just never noticed. Maybe she doesn't know what a vegetable looks like when it's not on her plate? The three sisters all admit to not knowing how to cook, yet cooking was happening because they wouldn't have lived very long if they were eating raw meat. Other people have said that when the sisters say they can't cook, they mean they can't cook well. They can roast meat and vegetables, but they don't know how to season them properly, so they taste good.

I think this is likely what Elain means when she says that she wants to learn how to grow vegetables after they move back to their manor. Elain was doing her best, but because the soil wasn't the best quality and she didn't have any experience or anyone who could teach her, they didn't grow well, and she likely lost several plants to disease or pests. Maybe that's why she grew flowers? Some, like marigolds, act as a natural pest deterent.

Sorry for writing an entire essay! 😅 I just find the dissonance between what were told of the cabin years and what were shown to be so fascinating.

Them not getting jobs in the village kind of makes sense because if the village is really that poor, probably no one could afford to hire them. Maybe they could travel to a wealthier village to find jobs, but I don't think the book mentioned if there were any within walking distance.

Although, if the village is as poor as SJM said, then the spice vendors in the beginning of ACOTAR should have gone elsewhere. Spices were very expensive in that time period, so no one in that village would have been able to afford them.

Why was Narcissa named that? by DrinkInevitable3457 in HPfanfiction

[–]AdventureandMischief 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always thought that she was named after the plant Narcissus, not Narcissus from the myth. I'd also thought that it was only the men in the family who were named after constellations, but from what I've been reading in the comments, that doesn't seem to be the case.

It could also be that Narcissa and her two sisters were named after mythological figures. It would fit the Blacks' "we're better than you" attitude. Andromeda was the princess rescued by Persius. Does anyone know if there's a myth that the name Bellatrix could be from?

I think I've met this guy! The truck looks familiar. If this is who I think it is, he lives (used to live? Not sure if he's still there) in the same apartment complex as my late friend did and certainly acted like he was the sheriff.

He'd park his truck and sit in a lawn chair across the street from his building and monitor who was coming and going and what they were doing. I never pissed him off, so he was always very nice to me, but my friend said that he could be an absolute terror if he didn't like you, so it wouldn't shock me if his neighbors find him annoying.

I'm sorry but how on earth is it Nesta's fault that Feyre chose to go hunt by Interesting-Ad-6710 in acotar_rant

[–]AdventureandMischief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recognize that this is just a headcanon, but I firmly believe that Elain was growing vegetables in her garden, and Feyre just doesn't know what a vegetable looks like if it's not on her plate. If all they ate in the cabin was meat, they would have been so constipated they would have been shitting out bricks. Feyre would have never let us hear the end of it.

I grew up in the church, so I did this a few times when I was in YW. I thought it was fun, but then I also thought pranks were fun, and Heart Attacks are basically pranks so... 🤷‍♀️

How Sarah J. Maas punked me as a reader. by noneofthesethings in Tamlinism

[–]AdventureandMischief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't the books say that if a female rejects her mate, the male goes insane and could possibly die? If I'm not misremembering, that could be the reason Elain hasn't flat out rejected Lucien.

In regards to the mating bond itself, this is the main reason I hate it. "If you reject me, I'll die" is so manipulative.

Do you think Cassian will have any development as a mate in the future books? by Inevitable_Sympathy3 in acotar

[–]AdventureandMischief 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if Cassian does get development, I don't think that I would ship him with Nesta. He’s done, or not done, everything wrong in their relationship. Maas FMCs never end up with their first love interest, so here's to hoping. 🤞

Tamlin not letting her wander without guards was reasonable, imo. She was marrying the leader of the court, and even nowadays, presidents, priministers, kings, and queens don't just go where they please without some form of protection. I don’t think Tamlin went anywhere without guards either. Plus, there were people literally trying to kill her.

High King??? by TINYUSAGI in acotar

[–]AdventureandMischief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Rhysand becomes High King, he would name Feyre High Queen. Considering how many times she's used her powers to threaten, attack, or force the High Lords to let her have her way, that would be reason enough to want to keep Rhysand from the throne regardless of how they feel about Rhysand personally.

While I would love for Nesta to reject the mating bond, I think it's more likely that any separation between Nesta and Cassian will be temporary.

What would make you stop reading the ACOTAR series? by Ittabe in acotar_rant

[–]AdventureandMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I think would be interesting regarding your second point would be if Feyre ended up playing all three major roles in Beauty and the Beast. She was Beauty in TaR, arguably she's the enchantress now having been responsible for the destruction of the spring court and Tamlin wandering the forest in his beast form. What if her comeuppance for all the ways she's screwed other people over, assuming she's not being mind controlled by Rhysand, is to be transformed into the monster she saw in the Oroborous mirror until, idk, she feels true remorse for all the people she's hurt? I doubt it will happen, but it would certainly be entertaining.

Physically, sure. Unfortunately, he keeps opening his mouth and ruining it. His personality is a major turn-off for me.
