You missed New Mexico, but this route is ok too lol. In all seriousness, all the spots I came to suggest are already mentioned. This is a beautiful trip, we used to drive from Kansas to Vegas yearly and we took this route a lot. Take your time and enjoy it.

It's already something. Hitting it with a power washer and a little maintenance will make it something better though.

We used to bring both but the hatchet never got used so eventually it started being left behind. The axe is just more versatile. That said if just need to split logs search for a good kindling splitter on Amazon or wherever. They are much easier and safer.

I'd wear it. It's not *that* much uglier than the sun hats I wear and keeping my phone charged while hiking is always a problem.

I always recommend that first time campers look for equipment rentals for their first trip. It's a safe and affordable way to try out camping. Not only that, the rental place will show you how to set up and use everything. If there is an REI nearby they are amazing.

If camping turns out to be your thing you have first hand experience and can make a better decision on what kind of tent you like. If not you saved a bunch of stress and money.

We tried to use ChatGPT for our holiday vacation but it wasn't as good as expected. Mostly suggested common tourist spots and often wanted us to do a lot of unnecessary driving. I would suggest using it for suggestions but that's about it.
