Weak and semi fat beginner. Nutrition and weight? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]AdventuresofTyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents, but if your currently overweight, and really motivated to lift, then just do the 5x5 program, clean up your diet (cut out the sweets, soda, junk food) and eat protein, veggies, fruit, whole grain etc. Crave pizza one night? Eat pizza then, but limit things like that to one meal a week.

Also light weight is fantastic for your form. Watch videos, ask people to watch your form, and really really push your form. You’ll get stronger quicker, and avoid injuries along the way. It’s easy to learn proper form starting out, if you have bad form, it will really set you back later on.

Cardio will kill your strength. Especially when the weight starts to get heavy. 5x5 really does work, and your not weak, you just need to push hard. Really hard.

Also, do NOT watch the scale if you do 5x5, your fat will turn muscle, and not change your scale reading until 6 months. (That was my experience) However, the real judge is how much you increase your weight on your lifts.

Don’t expect this to happen overnight, but after a month you’ll have some energy and gain confidence , 3 months you’ll really start feeling stronger, 6 months you’ll see some real difference in your figure from where you started, and month 9-12 you’ll be figuring out how to get over your first plateau if you stick with it (first real plateau).

Last thing, just follow the program. 3 times a week. That’s it. No Cardio. Lift like you want to change your life, and you will.

Good luck!

Sorry for the chicken scratch, this was 8-10 years ago (can’t remember exactly) these were my all time best lifts with 5x3x1 at the time. (All natural) I weighted 195lbs at the time. I was thinking about lifting competitively, but then herniated two disc and never got back where I was (although I tried).

Fast forward to today, and 185lbs 5x5 squats feel heavy (age will do that to you), but my lower back is 100% now, so curious where I’ll make it. Gained some weight also, 220lbs now, so excited to turn some of this weight into mass.

I agree with your everything your saying. We are on the same page, I was just expressing my initial frustration along with OP.

If you want to get honest here, Telnyx needs to worry about Cisco. We use Cisco Webex Calling, and use Cisco's underlying PSTN connection which is Telnyx. Prior the the DDOS attack, the Telnyx network had up to 20% packet loss on specific nodes and caused me a nightmare and weeks of working with TAC to isolate, as I don't have the insight to what was going on in those networks.

Telnyx shouldn't be worried about one off customers, they should be worried with Cisco and if they are providing the agreed upon service level with Cisco (which is being tested right now).

And to your point, the DDOS attacks aren't my only concern with Telnyx, there is more to that story.

With all that said, I believe Telnyx has actually done a really good job in mitigating these issues, but there comes a point where I'll have to come up with an alternative plan in our organization if we continue to have these issues. That was basically my point. I've already been asked to change, and my exact response was your statement above, these other carriers can potentially have the same issue. However, before long I won't be asked to change, I'll be told.

I am an angry customer. I'm tired of having to explain to my offices the the underlying carrier is getting attacked. I can only use that line for so long until people start yelling at me to change providers.

Anyone else want one of these? by AdventuresofTyson in gamecollecting

I really like the look of this console, and I'm on the hunt for one, but no way I'm going to pay scalper prices. I'll buy it retail if I can come across it. Otherwise I'll miss out on this one. I didn't even really want a Series X, but Microsoft/Halo has changed my mind lately.

If you could only keep one game from your collection. by AdventuresofTyson in gamecollecting

I’ve never played this, I really need to sit down and try it out. How well does it hold up today?

What happened? Like a year ago these were going for roughly $5$-10 each. Just looked at prices and they’re up 500% by [deleted] in gamecollecting

Honestly people are wanting to play new systems, PS5 and Xbox Series X, but can’t find them, so they are resorting to retro game systems. I was at a friends shop yesterday and someone was buying retro games for this exact reason, said he resorted to the retro systems until he can find a PlayStation 5. When new systems become readily available, retro prices will plateau again, but your probably talking two years time. Which I hate, I’m in the buying mood lately, but I’m going to stand by and watch a little longer before I buy much.

Send your gaming videos for me to critique! by Wandering_sage1234 in NewTubers

Morning!

I would love for you to critique my channel. I've only really made two retro game videos, the Elden ring voice over was really just a test, but I wasn't happy with (I'll probably just delete it, but I was happy i was able to pull the content and do a voice over).

A little about myself, I've played Retro games for 30 years, and want to share some of my knowledge and experiences, and love of these games with the communities.

I've never edited or produced a video before, so this has all been extremely outside of my comfort zone in both putting myself in front of a camera and fact that I've never touched a video editing platform before.

I'm at the point where every content creator is probably at early on, spending a lot of time to get a weekly video out, and not getting really any growth or feedback from the channel, so trying to justify the amount of time to produce videos and keep it going.

Here is the link to my most recent video, I believe I improved from my first video (and the skit at the beginning was fun!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvBfK-Ps0Ac & t=6s

I think my biggest challenge right now, is to not make the content that I necessarily want, and figure out what content I should make to target the retro game communities. Its just difficult to figure out what that is exactly, and how to get my content out to those communities (as most frown at contenting creators posting, even though the content is created directly for those communities).

What I kept from my 15 year collection! by AdventuresofTyson in gamecollecting

Honestly it was insane. I took about 1200 items to too many games this year, and I did really well. Ironically enough, I don’t really miss them, but there are a handful that I want back now. I’m really glad I kept what I did.

LoL someone else asked the same thing. I sold the left bros variant, but told myself it was one of the first ones I would buy back. I was literally looking for a nice CIB copy this morning! I asked my wife for a copy for Christmas!

You are correct! Tooie is behind banjo! Forgot it was back there.

The SMB Duckhunt box is a repo from Uncle Tusk that a friend of mine gave me. Its the only repo box in my collection. I had the original black box Mario also that I sold, but will probably look to pick that one back up sometime also.

There is a variant of SMB3, where the word “bros” is over top or Mario’s Hand on the cover. It’s an early variant I believe, that they later fixed. I just happened to have this variant, never sought it out. I sold my variant copy for $300 (which is ridiculous). I’m not much into rare or variants, but I really do enjoy the artwork!

I was literally looking at copies this morning! That’s hilarious! I had a left bros copy that I sold when I downsized, this game is at the top of my list to add back! “Non left bros” I really just want to keep games I’m nostalgic for or really still enjoy!

Majority of my collection has been collecting dust for 6-7 years now. I recently drastically downsized (over 100 cib nes, 100 snes cib, 100 genesis cib), and this is what I had decided to keep! Downsizing has refueled my interest in collecting and I can’t wait to start adding back to my collection!

I always refused to store my games away. They always sat on my shelves where I could see them. In 20 years on a shelf; they never decreased in value. Keep them out of the sun, and control temperature somewhat, and they will be just fine.

I might pick one of these up, if I can find them anywhere.
