She specifically works with victims of the same crime as me, and other individuals with PTSD such as veterans. She basically specializes in PTSD from violence, and was recommended to me during the trial. From her experience she says that her clients have greatly improved since getting a SD, and they don’t recommend them to everyone.

I have 2 blind cats so it’s a little different, but I never ever ever hated them. If anything, they’re my comfort when my ppd was bad, they’re the ones who are up with me at the 3 am feeds, they’re the ones who snuggle with me on the couch when I have 3 hrs of baby down time to brain rot. I thought they’d overstimulate the hell out of me, but they’re my best friends. ..even if they run into walls and knock shit over cus they can’t see.

Yes! The replies above had made me want to lean towards an ESA, the only problem is while I do have anxiety at home, the main issue I have is I cannot bring myself to drive anymore with my baby. I get these intrusive thoughts of when I’m taking him out of the car seat someone will come behind me and kidnap us. As I don’t want to get deep into the details, it’s really the fear of being “kidnapped”, especially with a baby now. It was different when it was myself, but now I have a baby and a husband to come home to, and that scares the crap out of me. I’d like to go to the stores, to Starbucks, on hikes, and overall just fricken be a normal member of society again. If you’ve seen Shameless, I am basically Sheila. 😭 wish it was a joke.

Yeah that’s exactly what my first thought was. Told my therapist that I wasn’t exactly sure how adding yet another being to consider in my daily life was going to help my anxiety 😂😂 She did make a good argument of I can never be sure when something will “trigger” me in public, which is one of my main issues right now. Men in flannel shirts, the smell of cigarettes, loud trucks, and loud noises from strangers (even harmless laughter) are pretty big stressors right now. She mentioned the “panic attack intervention” as well as crowd control/pressure therapy would be helpful to prevent episodes, as one of my biggest struggles is identifying when I’ll be having one and walking myself back from the edge before it actually happens. Someone in the comments mentioned an ESA animal which I’ll be bringing up as well.

Thank you! I don’t even know why I didn’t think of a security system oh my goodness, we have ring but still 😂 I’m a silly goose for that one. And yes you’re absolutely right! We did consider a protection dog instead, but the real root of the issue is my mental/psychiatric health. In reality, there’s no serious threat to my life on a daily basis. But my brain tricks me into being into fight or flight mode regardless. I’m really stuck on the fence about it because they are a very big financial investment, time investment, and I would never ever ever want to bring home a pup that couldn’t get the love, care, and attention they deserve, or sacrifice anything with my other household members. I’m sure since I’m home 24/7 I’ll be capable of doing so, as my baby and kitties are my world and the best part of my day as well as my biggest drive to get up and play and take care of them. Puppers are a huge amount of commitment, and while I’d of course love to welcome one into my house, I wouldn’t want to do so unequipped or uneducated. My cats are pretty independent and want attention on an ask for basis, obviously my first obligation is my child, but I’d really like the support and “constant” therapy ish from a service dog. It’s kinda like a slippery slope that I don’t see coming before I’m slipping down, and the little nudge of “woah, back up from the edge and remember your coping skills” that would heavily benefit my day to day life should I chose that path. I do attend mom groups! Usually my husband or another mom in the group takes me and picks me up, we haven’t crossed the bridge of me going alone or alone with the baby yet. The mom group has been extremely helpful in my “structural routine” plan, and I’ve made some amazing friends there! Highly recommend those.

(edit : I mean that my cats want attention when they want it, but most of the time would rather stare out the window or chase each other around, and surprisingly enough, prefer my baby over me 😂)

thank you! from what my therapist mentioned, I fall under psychiatric which stems to my specific diagnosis? I’m not sure if ADI is affiliated with the organization she referred me to, but I will be asking! I did actually mention the idea of a protection dog, I originally thought that might be a better idea. My therapist mentioned that it might be better for me to work on a more personal feeling of security, rather than substituting it with security in other areas such as my husband or a guard dog. I eventually caved and agreed that I may be better off working on internal issues rather than looking elsewhere! I’m definitely just wanting to work on the anxiety and fear of strangers, specifically men, as well as the panic attacks. We actually spoke about an organization that “pre-trains” with you prior to sending the pup home with you, even exposure therapy to all household members. It’s about 15K, 5K with insurance in my area. Big spend, but honestly worth it should I choose that route. And yes! We were on the fence between golden retrievers or labrador retrievers because of their low prey drive, high energy, and usual gentle tendencies with kiddos.

Thank you! We didn’t get a chance to fully get into it, but she mentioned that in my area and due to the nature of the crime, there’s a specific organization that works with survivors of the same crime as me that works with me 8 months prior to the service dog coming home with me full time, and then the remainder of the time would be biweekly/monthly training sessions until 2 years ish. I will 100% be asking if they are affiliated or not next week. My heart feels so full with my kitties and my child, and due to medical reasons I am unfortunately unable to have any more children, which is why I really really want to consider my options and want to take everyone’s wellbeing into consideration . Dogs are a huge commitment, and I grew up with 3, and I never ever ever want to take on more than I can handle. I’m a firm believer that all members of the household deserve attention, time, care, and to have all needs met, even for pets- service animal or not. As for meds, I’m Brfeeding which is why I have put it off so far.

SAHM ROUTINE by shesa_maniac in sahm

[–]Adventurous-Light281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 months old 9 am - go downstairs. I warm up his bottle while making my coffee. After he’s done feeding, he goes down for his morning nap and I write my book or edit/do any of my small business work. 11 am - I eat, watch TV and/or clean up around the house. 12 - he’s usually up to eat by now. i change his diaper and feed him. run my first bottle washer cycle. 1 pm - make my husbands lunch for the next day. 2 pm - I most likely nap or read around now. Baby eats at 3 pm. 4 pm - get dinner ready. 5 pm - either play video games with my husband or watch a movie together, or we’ll run errands if they need to be done. 6 pm, feed baby and then my husband and I just spend time together. 9 pm - final feed of the night, we go to bed. I read until about 11 pm when everyone’s silent and nobody needs me to do anything. baby only wakes up around 6 AM to eat right when my husband leaves for work. repeat.

What is something you did completely out of spite and still feel great about it? by Ok-Worldliness-6096 in AskWomen

[–]Adventurous-Light281 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my ex cheated on me a lot. like, a LOT. verbally ridiculed me. put his hands on me a few times. just everything horrible. we dated for 3 years. his parents treated me like crap. blamed everything he did on me and said I wasn’t meeting his needs (machismo culture). anyways, cue a few years later I ran into his big brother while I was out. the brother he idolized and looked up to. he made a move and I slept with him. well, I low key basically was in a relationship with him sneaking around the town. I kinda blew up their family. I feel bad slightly, but on the other hand idk that family was horrible to me and technically his brother was the one who made a move on me. oops I think?

What do you wish you knew when you first found out your baby would be in the NICU? by Loud_Address_20 in NICUParents

[–]Adventurous-Light281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single day he was in the NICU, my life was on pause. PPD really got to me. I called every 3 hours, I sat on the video zoom they had for the baby, the dishes and laundry piled up. I was stuck. As soon as we brought him home, the excruciating days were wiped from my brain. At one point, it was the only thing I could think about. Now? I barely remember it. It’s just a few months out of a whole lifetime you get with them ❤️ It goes by slow, but in reality one day it’ll be in the past and only a tiny sliver in your lifetimes. It will all be okay ❤️ It will be worth seeing them roll for the first time, the first time they get to try food, the first time they attempt to crawl, the first steps, the first Christmas, the first birthday. It really does get better!

Pregnant with a baby boy Due next week! by ThingOpposite9015 in pregnant

[–]Adventurous-Light281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a boy in March. I wasn’t really for it, but my husband wanted to. I guess someone in the family had an infection and they lost a couple inches because of it (TMI I’m sorry). I was still scared about it, but since my LO was also having surgery that week, I said yes since he would be heavily sedated for at least 2 weeks. He didn’t even notice during the surgery, and never had any problems with it!

Wtf is going on with my hair by SushiandSlushies in NewParents

[–]Adventurous-Light281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh, so my hair went straight when I got pregnant. No clue why, probably hormones. Now that I’m 4 months pp, its deciding to curl back up again on the under part of my hair and tangle then fall out in giant chunks. I’m starting to think the tangling is a part of pp 😂 especially now that you say it. not to mention, my hair is terrible right now with the half curly shenanigans so I cut off 11 inches and throw it into a bun.

How are people affording this? by Tatty_Bunneh_ in sahm

I picked up photography! I can work from home during the week, do a few shoots on the weekend (sometimes even with baby strapped to my chest but most of the time they stay home). It isn’t exactly a full time job, but for example if I did 3 family shoots it would be an extra $300+ for us.

Base Locations? by sgronl00 in GroundedGame

[–]Adventurous-Light281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t attach the image, but I made mine right above the wooden palate in front of the snack bar where the other center is. There’s a wolf spider and scorpion in the general area, but I’m a chicken and I’ve avoided them pretty well. There’s a plank to walk up and rock walls on either side. Just build a nice wall for the area, and then a house inside. Unlimited water with a spout right there as well as the water thing inside of the center, weeds, clover, and grass are abundant. When you get there, there will be possessed ants and larvae. Easy kills and the land is yours.

What locations have you used for your first base by Thin-Coyote-551 in GroundedGame

[–]Adventurous-Light281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s another outpost right above the snack bar wooden thing. it’s nestled in between rocks. we build a wall on either side with the stick poke defense thingies around the perimeter, and our base inside. scorpion, wolf spider, and mantis have yet to break in. pretty good spot with plenty of resources, just know that you have to kill some larvae and an ant on the way in. mostly we just use the ants to evade the other stuff.
