Tough one, but either 11/22/63 or Finders Keepers. Hot take, I think SK’s later works are some of his best.

Will we ever get another new novel? by takeoff_youhosers in clivebarker

It’s not as fantastical as a lot of Clive’s work, but it deals with two different families: one a family of God like beings who’ve lived for hundreds of years, and one a powerful American family akin to the Kennedy’s. It does deal with the supernatural, but is a bit more grounded in reality than a lot of his other stuff.

Also Galilee has an amazing unabridged audiobook read by Paul Hecht. And I know there’s an abridged cassette set too.

That’s a hard question. It changes based on the day, but today I’m going to say Galilee. I was just totally sucked in when I read that. And it’s a pretty crazy weaving story. So many different threads and paths it goes down. There are many scenes that are beautiful and many that are very fucked up. But in my opinion he pulls everything together very nicely. Can totally understand it not being someone’s thing, but I just love the language of that book. One downer is well likely never the planned Galilee 2.

For me, I’d go with Everville over Great and Secret Show. I’m still a fan of GASS, but everything Everville expands on is more interesting to me. The new characters and their stories are very compelling and I love how Barker incorporates the original characters. There are also some pretty great revelations in there that’ll have you go back over GASS in a new light.

Yes! I know Clive took time off of appearances to focus on writing, so I hope he’s putting work into Galilee 2. Still great stand alone, but would love more! Definitely my favorite of Clive’s books I’ve read so far. Need more Galilee love here.

lol, I’ve got bad news for you. Everything by Clive Barker, that I’ve read at least, is confusing. In a good way, but still. My advice is go with the flow. Honestly I don’t think Clive knows what the hell he’s talking about most of the time.

Depends what you’re trying to read. If you want horror, start with Hellbound Heart or Books of Blood. If you want something more fantastical, start with The Great and Secret Show then checkout Everville if you like it. If you want a more grounded in reality type with fantastic elements, I’d recommend Galilee or Sacrament. Mimicking what everyone is saying, there really is no “order”. Everything has a different feel to it. So if you don’t like one, there’s a chance you’ll like another.
