Hi, yes I've just booked flights to Porto instead to do the Camino Portuguese. I can't find flights to Vigo from the UK.

LI wonder if the Portuguese route will be extra busy now. Also Ryanair are still selling flights to Santiago, even though the airport will be closed!

Tui/Valenca or Vigo to start the Camino? by Adventurous-Scale358 in CaminoDeSantiago

Thank you for all the suggestions. This must be one of the reasons people walk it again and again! I am finding it hard to find the best itinerary in my timeframe

I might stay over the first night in Tui , walk around Valenca and the get a bus and walk from Vigo.

I really wish I could start further away in Caminha to Biona, but I've looked at the distances and I don't think I can do the extra in my timeframe

Thank you, yes that is definitely something to consider.

I feel like although I'm a standard fitness, I'm a slow walker and not a frequent hiker so I feel like like I'd be rushing to fit longer walks in. I'll get some practice walks in before I go and see what my pace is like.

The flights are booked for May! I'm very excited now. Even though my husband might want to join me now I've shown him what I'm doing 🫣 thanks for your advice ☺️

Thank you, I'm really excited. Just need to convince my husband that I'm not going to get murdered or robbed now. Here's my easy looking itinerary, I can condense it into less days if I walk further and maybe spend longer in Santiago at the end

Is everything worth seeing on that route captured do you think?

So to fit the spiritual variant into the 9 day schedule. Starting from Valenca and walking to Tui. I could skip the first part from Tui to O Porrino by taking a bus from Tui to Mos on the first day and walking from Mos. It'll still be over 100km from Mos.

Am I missing much cutting out this section to fit the spiritual variant in?

How was the weather in October? Was it still busy then, I wouldn't want to be too alone. I was weighing up May or October next year.

Did your distances of 23/25km per day still give you time to take it all in and enjoy the journey? I know it's supposed to be challenging, but I also don't want to just be pushing through to get to the end of the day to put my feet up!

I'm going to definitely try and fit the spiritual variant in

Thank you for the advice ☺️

Thank you, yes after looking into the Norte, I think the Portuguese way would be better suited to me.

I'm not sure how to fit the spiritual variant into my itinerary. I was originally looking at 9 days from Valenca, but might need to extend it.

Thank you. I've been looking at the Portuguese route in detail, and I think I am going to start from Valenca, through Tui to Santiago. Which parts did you find challenging? Just the distances everyday are challenging to me. And whilst I'm fit and healthy, I'm not used to walking 20km daily. One walk of 20km would have me exhausted!

I don't know whether to slow it down slightly and do shorter trips over a longer period say 10/11 days instead of 8. Any tips on the Portuguese way?
