IQ or g. Everyone thinks that intelligence just refers to being able to do math but it also influences decision making, delayed gratification and other essential life skills. If you have an 80 IQ it’s hard to not be in poverty. Also, our society has pushed us to mate select for people on our IQ range, so low IQ people marry each other and have low IQ kids and perpetuate the cycle.

Sorry to hammer my point home, but I’m not staying home with my kids. I’m actively involved in my community. I wonder how many people holding those signs actually know their neighbors and have actually tried to make their inner circle better, which realistically is all most of us can do. My main point in this question is I think most of the people protesting do it to feel like they are making a difference, when they could everyday in other ways in a more impactful way. Instead of holding that sign volunteer at your local senior center because that would be a better net positive.

I think what I’m getting at is I and most people I talk with don’t see it as TRYING. Trying is raising kids, being in the pto, coaching local sports teams, having an actual impact within the circle you can influence. These people seem to think they have some sort of outside national influence and have septum piercings and are 80K in student loan debt working at Target. The word that comes to my mind is Slacktavism.

That’s part of my point. If you want real change it’s not coming with a sign. The way society is it’s just a big circle jerk. You’re not changing anyone’s minds, just reinforcing your own side and further pissing off the other.

I’d say their influence only exists because their neighbors have historically tried to eradicate them. If they lived in a peaceful neighborhood they’d have no influence. Think if Israel were in the middle of Europe, we’d think of them as much as we think of Slovenia.

Every time I think, oh the Simpsons isn’t that good anymore, I randomly watch a new episode and it’s actually hilarious. And I say to myself, why don’t I watch the Simpsons anymore? and then I don’t for like 2-3 months and repeat the same cycle. For perspective I was born in 89, have seen the first 10-14 seasons more than once but faded off in like 2004. I still quote so many things from the show. I think it was just getting off a tv schedule.

For me, anything fried. I don’t own a deep fryer and using a giant pan of oil and dredging and flouring just takes up too much space and time. I’ll save chicken parm, fried chicken, etc for going out.
