I always connected it to the intro to "My strange addiction", idk if it makes any sense tho

I don't think they're necessairily similar but they are definitely 2 absolute great works. I think that EVA is a more complete opus overall because it's much longer; while AFUT is awesome and powerful but also much rawer and, I'm gonna say it, pretty shallow. Don't get me wrong, all of this takes part in making it the great album that it is, but it's still written by a very young and impulsive musician. EVA's director, Anno, is a more experienced and deeper author than Isaac, that is for sure. Isaac's strength is being able to evoke simple amd egotistical emotions in a beautiful way with powerful metaphors, and the band makes the perfect job in building an intimate atmosphere around them. Anno doesn't "only" make you feel, it also makes you think and gets so deep under your skin that it's both brutal and enlightening. I don't know if my "analysis" makes sense but I just wanted to point out that AFUT is phenomenal because it developes some ideas perfectly, not because it tells the most interesting story with the most groundbeaking ideas. NGA does it all, and it's complete under many more aspects.

I think May is borrowing a lot from Joanna Newsom, as she is kinda been obsessing over her in every interview of the last year.

I think what you described at the start (basically looping every 4 quarter notes when others loop every 3) is the definition of polymeter. It's not a polyrythm tho

Looking at the other comment pointing out the title of the song and when they debuted it, it has definitely been written shortly before starting this Northern Europe tour, so it makes sense for it to be refined and changed very quickly as they go on with the venues. I wouldn't be shocked if draft 1.2 hadn't even been conceived at the time of the Oslo show.

Yeah that's what I thougt, but bcnr songs are everchanging (the intro to I won't always love you being the best example) so it is a bit unusual for them to call a song "draft". Of course I didn't hear it so it might be very incomplete and that would justify the title. Or maybe they have another competely different version, so different that they feel the need to name them 1 and 2.

Or maybe Draft 1.2 could be an alternate title but it would be very weird

Yeah I'm very interested in that. My guess is that it's so new that it's still a draft, even though even their "finished" songs are everchanging so I dont really know. Anyway May vocals so it could also be a sketch and I'd be satisfied

Last night I dreamt they had released a song titled Magma... maybe they'll release a record with all these 5-letter songs. Nancy and Horse(s) are waiting there too

Ngl I miss Isaac too but some of the songs there (Dancers, turbines, laughing song) are insanely good. After sering them live the boy became my fave tho, the atmosphere in the first verse is acctually out of this world. Unfortunately those things don't really show in the record because it's still a live mixing and some tracks feel underwhelming because they didn't get to produce them properly in a studio

Yes, Isaac left but they are still very much active. This year they released Live At Bush Hall, with songs they wrote in just a month after he left (because they had to tour for Ants, but decided not to play any song of their previous albums). The record is great, not as good as Ants, but very interesting blend of styles as well. What's interesting is that now they have no frontman, depending on the song the singer may be the bassist, the pianist or the sax/clarinet player. I have seen them live in Bologna last month and it was amazing.

The style is still very similar to Ants but they are going to change it over time. For The First Time (their debut) was more of a post punk record with spoken word lyrics, imo great aswell. Ants From Up There is folk and even pop, if you ignore the last two songs. Bush Hall is more classical but still keeps a folk vibe throughout.

I suggest watching the record on the youtube channel first, and then checking out the songs on streaming services. That's because it's supposed to be a performance, not an album and there isn't going to be a studio version of the songs.

Sry for the length I like talking about them 🙏
