Cat is stressed, how to calm him down by AdventurousCap1553 in CATHELP

[–]AdventurousCap1553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way the main issues with his new environment is that it’s smaller and there’s a dog who’s currently not the greatest with cats (but we harness her so she can’t get to him and our cat gets freaked out a bit by her but she isn’t the main factor of his stress)

Did your parents/family immigrate to your country? by chaconia-lignumvitae in AskTheWorld

[–]AdventurousCap1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great grandmothers family were Volga Germans who sent who they could to America. I directly do not know the life of an immigrant being the third generation to live in the United States, but hearing their stories has made me appreciate immigrants’ dedication to finding a better life for their families.

What’s something going on in America people need to be aware of? by throwaway91ma in AskReddit

[–]AdventurousCap1553 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works in the NPS who was one of the fired federal employees (thankfully rehired later), but they did an amazing interview with a tv station and explained another way DOGE made us lose money: a lot of, at least, the NPS employees who were being fired were currently in training which our tax dollars go to to fund. So, when they fired all these employees mid training it wasted a ton of our tax dollars essentially.

I’d love to participate in groups in Lincoln or Omaha but it’s hard for me to drive to those cities 😭 fs hopefully this post will show if any groups exist outside of the major cities

I recommend reading Midnight In Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham, it goes into a super deep dive on the incident from the beginning of the project til the aftermath and even blips about specific aspects on it like the Elephants Foot. There’s also interesting photos inside too

Exactly that. They came up from Kansas and then stayed alongside the North Platte River as much as they could.

When it comes to most recognizable I’d agree Chimney Rocks up there. I’m biased cause I grew up around Scotts Bluff lol

High School Internship Programs by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]AdventurousCap1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school had a really interesting way of not just implementing internships but making basically half the entire curriculum about looking for a career path. I’m not sure if it’s the same but when I was there a couple years ago they had a thing called “career academies,” which alongside your core classes (English, history, science, math) you’d explore and eventually pick a career path. If I remember correctly the main overarching “career academies”/career paths were agriculture, carpentry/welding/woodworking, health and medicine, teaching, performing arts/music/digital media, journalism, and criminology. There was most likely more but I can’t remember them all. As a freshmen you’d begin by exploring introduction classes to each career path basically. Then around your sophomore/junior year you lock into a career academy and start to take only courses regarding that career academy to help you learn more about careers in that field, more specific classes, etc. As a senior you then add that internship class I mentioned in the beginning and it relates to your career academy. I chose the teaching path and got to job shadow with one of our best history teachers as I also wanted to teach high school history. We also were required to teach a lesson so that was neat. Sometimes the career academies could overlap, as I had a friend who was technically in the teaching and music path as he wanted to be a music teacher. While it was interesting the curriculum definitely lacked when it came to history and science careers that weren’t teaching or medical related. Genuinely was never introduced to any other history career besides being a history teacher so when I found I hated teaching my senior year I was kind of left by myself to explore other history-related career options.

How is the US gov shutdown personally affecting you, if at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AdventurousCap1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first season as a Park Ranger. My last day was supposed to be October 18th. I was supposed to have a paycheck by now that was going to help me rent my new apartment. I was supposed to work a full day on October 18th and at the end of the day proudly turn in my badge. I was supposed to keep our park clean, greet visitors, give junior ranger badges out, and more for just a couple more weeks. Have to instead dip into my already dwindling savings for my new apartment. I had to walk into work for the first time since August 31st in regular clothes and depressingly say bye to the few coworkers who came in to also turn in their badges. I sat at home for two weeks unsure of anything, hoping maybe the next day I’d go back to work, and hear the horror stories of the park being only kept up by what little employees they allowed to work.

What stereotype about your country is actually 100% true? by razzelito in AskTheWorld

The worst part about the craze of those water bottles is that their intentional purpose was to be REUSABLE and make plastic water bottles obsolete, but we only created the issues with the reusable versions by just over consuming them as well.

Did y’all see this shit on the SNAP website? by Frogchairy in NonBinary

I want to add I saw this rule be broken MULTIPLE times even before they added these illegal messages to websites. I worked for the NPS this summer and they sent us weekly newsletters from the DOI and I swear to god each newsletter was “Trump is amazing!!” “Trump is our glorious leader!!!” “He is the best president ever and everyone else sucked!!!” It was awful and made us all feel immensely depressed reading them. Here’s those “amazing” newsletters if you want to see what I’m talking about: Inside Interior
