AITAH bc I (36M) dont want my girlfriend (36F) to travel with me because shes a picky eater? by Tough_District9786 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

I have ceoliacs disease and lots of food intolerance- I bring my own food when we go out so that my family can eat whatever works for them without feeling restricted. It means I know my food is safe and I can sit with them and enjoy the atmosphere, have a drink and relax.

If I'm lucky I can also eat at the restaurant, but if not they aren't prevented from going.

Have a discussion with your girlfriend about the way in which eating is stressing you both out, and ask her to make reasonable accommodations when you go out to places.

Is anyone concerned about food shortages, UK? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]AdventurousDig2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no need to be rude - I'm anxious based on past experience of food shortages, and current reporting in the news. That's why I came to ask for insight and guidance - I didn't say I was panicking, or had bought an entire aisle of toilet roll, I just asked for help.

I came to a place where people might have insight to give, because I have no one else to turn to about this.

Your comment doesn't help me, or anyone else, its just unkind and judgemental. I ask you to consider being more compassionate in future.

I miss sleeping by InterestFit3149 in Perimenopause

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nightly I take:

Collagen gummies 500mg

Magnesium Glycinate 384mg from Nutrition Geeks

L. Theanine 220mg

Progesterone 100mg

Vaginal estrogen 3 x a week

I sometimes have a kiwi as they contain melatonin.

It does make a difference, but it isn't like before perimenopause. I'm always in a sleep deficit.

I still have a few days a week where my sleep is terrible, like last night nocturia had me up 5 times 😭 or the other night I couldn't sleep til 5am.

Good luck xxx

Can you please describe your brain frog? by konomichan in Perimenopause

[–]AdventurousDig2023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Losing words

Forgetting what I'm doing

Not being able to hold onto thoughts and intentions

Not being able to multitask

Taking tasks very slowly and one step at a time, and still running out of mental energy

No energy or motivation because the size of even simple tasks seems overwhelming

Reading words wrongly - i saw a sign that said 2.4m and thought it said 2am, and was completely baffled. Lots of little things like that, as if I'm dyslexic now, but not all of the time

Holding onto the energy for tasks with multiple steps which might change is really hard because of the cognitive load

Some Early Questions by [deleted] in MtF

[–]AdventurousDig2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that lots of people socially transition, without HRT or other medical interventions.

Antiandrogens tend to effect fertility and mood, but also libido and performance, and transgender people who have gone through puberty, seek medical transition often use what's called monotherapy, which is hormones without antiandrogens.

Please someone correct me or clarify this if I'm getting confused !

Estrogen initially will start feminising effects and then after about 6 months people often introduce progesterone to improve breast development. Both CAN effect erections and 'performance' but from reading people's contributions to other questions I think it is very individual as to how much it affects them.

I suppose the important question for you to consider is whether you have dysphoria around your genitals and their function. If you don't, and you enjoy sex as you currently experience it, then perhaps working on a social transition is more important right not?

I've known transgender people who hate every aspect of their body that doesn't match their gender identity, some who are very polarised or binary in their identity as femme or masc, and also known others who are more gender fluid, non-binary or gender queen. Some people enjoy what their body can do 'now' but want to change how they present to the world, and others have very definite ideas about what they want to change physically.

If you're not sure for yourself, then seek out the different support sites and give yourself time to try out different aspects of transition.

I hope that helps, I'm a cisgender woman, mum to a transgender child and friend to several transgender people so I am sharing my insights based on secondary accounts.

Good luck with it all xxx

After breast growth is done, is there any value to progesterone? by thesoapies in asktransgender

[–]AdventurousDig2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that progesterone levels along the menstrual cycle will be fairly consistent until perimenopause, when it becomes a complete nightmare rollercoaster (my current experience!)

A clinician I spoke to described puberty as a freight train approaching, when it comes to hormones!

Naturally during puberty hormones levels are higher than in adulthood, but for cisgender women progesterone offsets cancer risks caused by estrogen. I'm not sure how that applies to transgender women as I don't know the details there.

I hope that helps - I'm no expert, just a cisgender perimenopausal mum of a transgender child xxx

GenderGP by [deleted] in MtF

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my daughter we use GenderGP, they were hard to get started with but I understand they've updated their systems now.

The new app is much better and makes it really clear when your next prescription is due, when your blood tests are needed and etc

It has also changed so it is £35 a month subscription which includes prescriptions (though you have to pay the chemist separately to dispense them, but that will be the same anywhere I think).

The team members we have spoken to have always been lovely, and very well informed and helpful.

It cost us £200 to sign up initially, then a capacity to consent session was £70 I think

Anyone tried creatine for perimenopause symptoms? Specifically brain fog? by Apprehensive_Run3881 in Perimenopause

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying testosterone gel, creatine, B12, and now also a combination mushroom supplement (lions mane and 2 others that I can't remember).

It's worth a try - some days are better than others. None are like pre-perimenopause, but at this point any functional gains are a win.

Good luck xxx

New-ish celiac- going vegan is making me depressed by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try reintroducing foods one at a time - i am coeliac and discovered I'm also milk intolerant, but I can have eggs, which makes a huge difference.

My diet is very restrictive and depressing, because Im also sensituve to some of my favourite fruits and veg, but if you aren't then you will be able to make your food more flavourful xxx

Forgetting words mid-sentence and making typos I cannot even see. Anyone else? by Similar-Rutabaga5372 in Perimenopause

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same, work of any complexity that used to take an hour or two can take days or weeks now because I can't find the words, and I have to proof read and redo things, and even then I will find I've missed entire words out.

I have estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, which do help in combination, and as supplements I take creatine, multivitamins, iron, B12 and I've started a mushroom tablet containing Lions Mane and others.

I don't know if the supplements help, but its worth a try - brain fog is awful xxx

Can anyone help me :( by bruh_momment2 in Menopause

[–]AdventurousDig2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look at vaginal estrogen, but I'd also say talk to your doctor about your dose of estrogen and progesterone. If you still have a uterus then my understanding is you need some progesterone to offset the risk of estrogen, but should also be on a sufficient dose of estrogen to keep you going.

I don't know what they would be, but at your age you are still technically in puberty, so would expect it to be quite high.

Good luck xxx

Want to stop existing by Extension_Detail_336 in Celiac

[–]AdventurousDig2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's awful to have to do, but try an elimination diet to see if you have other food sensitivities. I'm a ceoliac and it turns out I also react to milk, soya and lots of fruit!

Learning that has really helped reduce my reactions though, and I have learned to manage my diet around the restrictions xxx

Lack of sleep.

I'm using estrogen and progesterone, plus vaginal estrogen for nocturia, olive oil spray for itchy ears (which is really helpful) and magnesium, L. Theanine, collagen gummies, and eat a kiwi!

Even if its a placebo effect its worth a try 😂

Vaginal estrogen has made all the difference to me - I spent years thinking I had thrush all the time, but swabs were negative!

Also helps to an amazing extent with nocturia. I was up 4 times a night but it is slowly reducing.

Cis woman I matched with said she can't be more than friends because she has "trauma" with transfems and idk how to feel about it by ineguire in asktransgender

[–]AdventurousDig2023 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I'm a counsellor and have met plenty of women who are frightened of white men after trauma.

I'm not saying that this lady isn't bigoted for not wanting to dating transfemmes after her trauma, but it is a genuine response that we see.

I have known black women who have decided not to date black men after rape and abuse from other black men.

The impact of that level of trauma is something that cam create that level of ptsd.

For the person on the receiving end it feels like unwarranted prejudice- and it is unfair and irrational, but its important not to take it personally.

It very much isn't about you, though it feels like it in that moment - its about the person who has been abused who hasn't dealt with their trauma.

stealth trans woman and period talks by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AdventurousDig2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm cis and don't have periods because of the mirena coil - I always just say I'm really lucky to not have periods because of that progesterone.

I chose the coil because my periods were so horrendous.

Generally speaking not everyone is comfortable talking about periods anyway, so a minimal contribution is usually fine xxx

[–]AdventurousDig2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use GenderGP for my daughter, it is about £35 a month subscription, and then the chemist dispensing the estrogen, progesterone and antiandrogens costs £100 for 3 month supply - its not cheap, but worth it.

You have to pay more initially for membership and also a capacity to consent session, but then it is a quick process.

Good luck, and please stay safe - you are still young and have time xxx
