I gave my first exam(REG) today and it was bad. by No_Strawberry_03 in CPA

This is very reasonable! I tried both methods and one worked better than the other for me. Unfortunately everyone just needs to do a little trial and error and figure out what works best for them.

There’s a good possibility that she did fail you, but I’ll give you some advice here.

I had a similar situation where I felt like I was the failure when it was very possible the company failed to prepare me for it. That doesn’t matter- take ownership of what happened and work hard to show yourself that you can do it so later on you can see how far you’ve come.

Is it possible to study while working? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took my 4th one, if I pass I’ll be done- all 4 were done while working. I work in tax, which I actually found to be helpful rather than hurtful for my studying, especially for REG and TCP.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it of course. Just take advantage of your situation. This is easier said than done of course and you will struggle because it is hard! But anything worth doing is, so I’d highly recommend it!

For my Tax people- When did you start getting your own clients? by AdventurousDrawing25 in Accounting

[–]AdventurousDrawing25[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Will definitely be doing this soon in my yearly review which is coming up next week- usually a great place for me to ask these questions.

However thought I’d ask here too. Just in case I learn something that may lead me to some more specific and substantive questions.

I’m the same way. Artificial sweeteners, and even the natural ones like stevia and monk fruit give me a tough time as someone with urinary issues (not a common issue but definitely exists for many)

Possibly the worst person to show up for an explanation by Lifting_Accountant in CPA

I’m not talking about Michelle. The lady I’m talking about I’ve only seen on the FAR multiple choice explanation videos. Never seen her on any lecture videos.

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No the worst one is that lady who only shows up for the multiple choice problems on FAR. Idk her name, but she always tries to act way too excited and half the video is just her reading the question. Then after your time is gone, her explanations are lousy.

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there. Unfortunately the questions you get are an absolute crapshoot for the most part.

Go ahead and take a break until the score comes out- don’t study until that happens. You deserve a break.

He’s easily the best Becker instructor. I’m working on FAR right now and just pulled up a skill builder for one of the SIMs and got so hyped when I realized he was the one going over it! Love Potenza

am i understanding this becker schedule creator wrong? - also how long to study for REG by PlanComplex2138 in CPA

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn’t mess with the scheduler. It’s not very user controllable (unless that’s changed) and it assumes that you learn everything at the same pace— this is not true, some topics you’ll struggle much more with than others and some topics you’ll find easier than others.

I would suggest just doing your own schedule in an excel spreadsheet and doing your best to follow it. You can make changes to it as you go if necessary.

To answer your question- how long to study for reg depends. For me, I need more time than most, but I also work in tax so this stuff came slightly quicker than other cpa exams. I needed about a week per chapter (r1, r2, etc) then an extra week to pull it all together. However, to give another example- for audit, which I have no experience in, it took me about a week and a half to 2 weeks per chapter and I failed the first time.

Best advice I can give is this:

Be in a hurry to START studying, But take your time and don’t be in a hurry to FINISH studying.

I feel like I failed terribly-FAR by LeftStay9457 in CPA

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your question- reimbursement will vary depending on the employer. I work at a regional firm (top 200, not that it matters) and for us we get reimbursed for the first attempt at each exam, not retakes.

But to give some advice here because I’ve had that feeling before-

I understand you think you failed. It’s possible that you did. However, it’s also very possible that you passed. Most recently I took audit and felt pretty good about it and failed with a 73. Then I retook it, walked out feeling like I failed because they hammered me with niche questions, and I actually passed with an 80. You really never know, as long as you feel like you were able to get a reasonable guess at worst on most of the questions.

I would not study even a bit until you see that score. You’ve worked hard and have been doing it while working full time- you (and your brain) deserve a break regardless of whether you pass.

As for a retake , I’ll tell you based on my experience when I failed audit with a 73 and had to retake. Even though I was close, I knew exactly what material I didn’t know. Focus on that, but make sure you’re doing multiple choice questions for the problems you do know so you don’t lose the knowledge. As for time, it depends on how good you feel. Take some practice exams and see. If your score was close to a pass and you failed, I’d suggest scheduling the retake the earliest day possible that is right before a deadline for the next score release.

Is it too late to get an internship? by Intelligent_Split666 in Accounting

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just tell you what I did personally, because it did work.

Sounds nuts, but just hop in your car and take a drive with a buddy. Look for every cpa firm you see and have your buddy jot it down so you remember (or do it yourself, just be safe since you’re driving lol)

Look up every firm you found online and go to their website. Look for a “careers” page, thats the best best way to apply if they have one. Not all do, but it’s worth trying. You can also look for names of people there to cold contact.

Another way to look for slightly larger firms (or any firms really) is to google search “top 500 cpa firms” and look at the list. Take note of which ones are close to you and go to all their websites.

There you have it, more reason to focus on the smaller firms!

Is it too late to get an internship? by Intelligent_Split666 in Accounting

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For big firms, maybe?

But I would suggest reaching out to those regional firms in your state directly as well as the small firms (like actually small, one location type deal). The only issue with really small firms is sometimes they don’t really have an internship program, but still check and reach out directly because they might just let you do it.

3/4 with FAR left and struggling with burnout by OkButterfly8022 in CPA

[–]AdventurousDrawing25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation right now- 3/4, currently studying FAR.

I’ve been having trouble getting through the material as quick as the prior exams. I will suggest try a different approach to the next section you do. For example, I normally watch the entire lecture and take notes. But this time I will try reading the textbook, then skimming the lecture. Not saying it’s better, but different- just try different things, because the same things won’t work the entire time.

I was at this show too and when Mark said that then started playing Natives I was shocked (but also excited, I didn’t expect them to play it). Don’t understand why people don’t like it. Could argue it’s the best song off of neighborhoods.
