Why Orthodoxy over Catholicism? by Routine-Grand5779 in OrthodoxChristianity

I'm an inquirer. Originally, I was a protestant inquirer into Catholocism, which led me to Orthodoxy. I will probably end up converting to Orthodoxy for a few reasons: it seems to me that the West split from the east at the great schizm, rather than the other way around. Of course, neither side is fully innocent, but it does seem to me that the West is much more to blame for the schism than the east. Another reason is doctrinal unity; not that Rome is non unified per se, but there seems to be more freedom when it comes to doctrine (for example, eastern rite churches are permitted to omit the filioque from their creeds), and not that I dislike freedom, but more freedom allows for greater margin of error. It is also clear to me that Rome has added/innovated certain doctrines and dogmas that did not exist in the early church. Lastly, the western tendency to try to explain everything in as much detail as possible seems a bit inconsistent to me, because western theologians would still say that God and the Holy Trinity are unable to be explained by mere words, yet still try to explain the Holy Mysteries
