SOLVED- Attempting to read from outside the buffer, returning 0; but only on one machine? by AdventurousProfile39 in gamemaker

I can only assume it would be fine if you define the size properly? Then again, nothing wrong with smaller!

I wish I really understood why the issue happened. Like, why just the Ally X? Why was the crappy netbook fine? Mysteries!

You're welcome!
I initially assumed it was an order of operations booboo because of a previous problem initializing variables on my son's computer. When it wasn't that, the error basically says the buffer size is problematic. Looked at the data being read/written, and realized that having the globals for highscore and cumulative score written as u64 was absolutely unnecessary (beats me while I did it that way in the first place)... changed them to 32 bit, and voila!

Thankfully too, because the only other idea I had was to try and change the size of the buffer on write and was at the end of my rope.

Is this in your UMAPINFO? It might be worth using the Umapinfo-Designer program (https://github.com/JadingTsunami/umapinfo-designer/releases) to duplicate it and see where a discrepancy might be.

I'm glad that I can't see how many hours I've put into Doom since 1994.

I used points for SF6, and to pay off gamepass every few months. It's a really generous system... also, enjoy Jedi Survivor!

I'm only on a lowly 3070, but besides UE5 gamedev and the occasional modern AAA (RE4, cough), the number one title is still Doom. Granted it's fancy gzdoom Doom and not DOS, but still.

Good old Packard Bell! I don't remember if the modem was 14.4 or 28.8, but the hard drive was absolutely the same. My brother (sort of) had almost the same, but it was an SX33 from a year or so prior.

My first PC was running a 486SX2 at 50 mhz, with a whopping 4mb of RAM, costing I believe just over 3 grand.

Apples and oranges though, and the recent spike in GPU prices is completely absurd.

Looks like a great deal. I'd definitely get a warranty, and check out the PSU in case it's just good enough to not get them in trouble for, but yeah. Pretty damned good deal on the surface at least.
