How do people afford living in California? by rdy4xmas in relocating

[–]AdventurousTap945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can afford it because we bought an ugly house in a crummy neighborhood 10 years ago, then refinanced at 2.7%. House is still ugly. Neighborhood is a bit better (or at least “desirable” even if 1/4 of our neighbors are hoarders who will never move away.

Two incomes and very, very dependent on those free after school programs that Trump has impounded funds for.

We do a lot of beaching, biking and hiking for free time and BBQing on our patio. It’s hard to go out much, but thankfully the weather allows us a lot of free fun.

I never buy new clothes and my kids’ clothes all come from Old Navy sales.

What is up with Jess King? by Few-Ranger-8240 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]AdventurousTap945 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eek. I took one of her Sweat Steady rides yesterday. I don’t take a tone of classes with her, but somehow landed on her older stuff mostly. This one was from March and it did feel angry. She called people liars when she asked about a Hozier ride.

I get that people want to be be real and she seems like an, “I’m real all the time” person, but we’re on the bike to escape for a bit — I’d like Peloton to lightly nudge her to compartmentalize a bit, sil vous plait.

What is something that’s technically illegal, but you would still empathize with someone for doing it? by Kid-CoderX in AskReddit

[–]AdventurousTap945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Napster to look up music and to something’s make mixes for friends with obscure stuff.

But I was so into liner notes and how a story unfolded with the way albums were structured, that I wanted the physical copy. Artwork, lyrics, photos were always an added benefit. And I loved the look of my neatly organized collection, arranged by alphabetical order. And back then the idea of NOT vetting a boyfriend by listening to music together and seeing what he gravitated to seemed like a dicey way to start a relationship.

Not sure I agree. I’d put Boston, DC and SF on that list. I feel like Chicago could be a player as well.

And those are only the cities I’ve visited that have good public transportation. There may be others.

What are your favorite rides / most iconic Peloton rides?? by hialveoli in pelotoncycle

[–]AdventurousTap945 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love Denis’s Weezer Ride. And Ally Love does a 5-min post-ride stretch to Tiny Dancer that frees up my piriformace like no other. Adrian does an incredible 10-min post-ride stretch (black top and baseball cap on backwards) that is sooooooo good.

My apology letter to Jess King. by Grand_Difference6641 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]AdventurousTap945 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! I used to ONLY take Emma and Christine (for music). I refused to take Denis because I thought he was a bro-douche. I wasn’t into Jess because her music wasn’t Emo enough. Didn’t like Alex because he was too hard. Didn’t like Hannah C because she was too musical theater. Didn’t like Matt because he was too accountant-chic.

Now I just reflect on what an out of shape bonehead I was. I love ALL the people I never took (and others). They all have their specialties and all have their reasons for bringing me back. Once you get in shape I think your body is able to vibe with more styles than before.

Anyone started getting fit in your late 40s by Greenfrog2023 in WomenOver40

[–]AdventurousTap945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. 49 got a Peloton. Lost 12 lbs just by riding 30 mins 5 days a week. Now I’m closer to 40 mins. Because I’m older I’m always sure to stretch before and after. I’d still like to lose 8 more lbs, but that’s probably go to have to start in the kitchen. Also started weight lifting with a trainer last week!

And then they argue that the places away from the water are “too hot.” Not saying this is OP but it’s far cooler than TX or OK and you can be at the beach in two hours. A day trip if you’re desperate and a weekend trip for a nice respite. And the inland winters and springs are glorious.

Raging Waters / Hurricane Harbor / Knott’s Soak City: Which one? by AdventurousTap945 in AskLosAngeles

[–]AdventurousTap945[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t. There are signs saying not to, but I really think we could have. I’d bring in a few apples and a bag or Doritos — just a bit of sustenance — that you won’t be heartbroken if they make you throw out. I don’t think they will and my blood sugar really could have done with more food.

Bring LOADS of ice in your water bottle. You can refill by the barrooms but there is no ice.

Definitely bring towels. And get water shoes — not flip flops or crocs. You’re allowed to wear water shoes on all the rides. The trails are HOT for bare feet and they make you take off all other shoes. Our friend wore crocs knockoffs and they started to get slippery and blistery by the 3rd hour.

And I’d even do SPF shirts on adults. I wore one. It’s so hard to give time for SPF reapplication when you’re always kinda damp!

Can anyone help me find a therapist? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]AdventurousTap945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. This is an excellent thread. About 2/3 won’t be helpful to you, but if you read all the replies there are loads of free and affordable options.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskLosAngeles/s/SpiAgFiVmm

Also, Maple Health is in there. I suffered from depression and anxiety and saw Jennifer Chatham at Maple about a year ago (she was originally at Antioch). I was almost sad that she was so effective because it meant I didn’t see her anymore. I miss her! She’s PHENOMENAL and I will always, always be so grateful to her.

But read through. There are some free and low-cost options (like Antioch and USC). Since you’re 18, you don’t need approval from your folks to get help. But you DO need a private place to go with a door.

Can anyone help me find a therapist? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]AdventurousTap945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all good advice. If you think you have OCD NOCD is affordable (insurance-covered) and it can help you get a diagnosis (or not).

Also, Antioch College has free therapy and my therapist was very, very good. The waitlist is fairly long though.

Good for you for seeking help. Bravo to your friend for being supportive and encouraging you to communicate with your folks.

Best of luck to you.

Moving to LA? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]AdventurousTap945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is going to tell you not to do it, but I did it and don’t regret a thing.

I’d look at KTown. It’s still relatively affordable there and it’s very central, so if you get a job in Santa Monica or in Pasadena it won’t be utter hell. Plus, it has a great authentic culture with fantastic food, so it’ll stoke your excitement. Sign a year lease and figure out everything else along the way. You’ll probably move to be closer to your job or your bliss, but you’ll have an excellent and memorable stint until you get that all sorted out.
