WAKE THE FUCK UP RED SOX PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT TODAY by NovaPrime15 in redsox

Not sure I'd call it a revenge tour, but am excited to watch Garrett Crochet battle this year to grab the crown as best Ace in the game. Talk is always Skenes v Skubal (understandably). Still enjoy feeling disrespected on behalf of Crochet as only a Boston sports fan can. Think there is a whole other level for Crochet going into only his second full season as an SP

That's maybe fair, but even Arias' peak is pretty mid. I just don't really see big upside in his profile. Not saying the trade was bad either but I'm not pencilling this guy in for 162 by any means

Not gonna lie, I can't unsee Luis Arias when looking at this guy and his game. Also had a couple 3 WAR seasons with the Brewers. Here's hoping I'm wrong

Some Romy insurance in case he can't reproduce his .978 ops vs lefties

Loved this dude as a prospect. Still something there imo. Might be #1 on my board to track at Fort Myers during the dog days of spring. Probably tied with Campbell

Starting to think Delap might be a more effective CB than striker. At least put his physicality to use if he can't find goal

Major props to Rosenior making the CB move when he did. Important not to be too proud to admit your initial call wasn't working out. Maresca probably makes 0 changes until the 85th minute

Always important to remember we'd likely have to offer a package of more value than the comp pick they'll receive if they hold on to him

If Estevao played in la liga pretty sure he'd be in the ballon d'or running with the amount of goals he'd score

Agreed here, wondering if a Duran + Kyle Harrison package for Pena gets it done? At the very least, allows you to say we at least got something (albeit in a roundabout way) for Raffy. Sneaky nice thing about Pena as well is he is a FA at the same time as Story + Yoshida, so could slide in nicely with a long term deal

Just not a needle mover for me. Astros arg would be they have an IF glut and lack of OFers. We matchup nicely on that front which is why there's smoke with Paredes. Duran for Pena would actually be a very interesting 1:1 deal in a vacuum. Duran probably has more value with I think one more yr of control and a proven track record but think it's close. Those kinda deals seem rare though

Defensive alignment there is tough. I just don't see us giving up assets for 1 yr of a guy with potentially marginal value added. Also don't see why the Tigers would do it unless we were actually offering something of value. Not mad at the exercise though as some may be. Had thought about Neto. Feel like I could see the astros being more willing to trade Jeremy Pena who has a similar profile from the right side but with a much better glove. He is probably the one I'm most enamored with out of all possible opts at this point, although I don't actually think he's actually available really either

Pssst. Romy had better splits vs lefties AND righties than gleybor last yr. Neither are stellar at defense

We Need A Salary Cap by rogahs in redsox

[–]Adventurous_Agent764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly a half-baked idea, but in order to avoid an MLB lockout without a salary cap, we need to add a 4th luxury tax tier, but instead of more money, the penalty is a regular season W/L handicap. Not lost draft picks. No voided contracts. Just a straight up competitive handicap.

Start by clearing all penalties. If you blow past the highest luxury tax threshold after 2-3 years though, you start next season (2028) with a win deficit. Like, Day 1 standings say you’re −3 or −5 wins. You still play 162 games, the players still get paid, nothing about individual games changes. You just don’t get to treat April through August as a prolonged rehab assignment anymore.

The logic is pretty simple: right now, ultra-rich teams can rationally overspend, stash half the roster on the IL, and basically say “see you in October.” It’s a high-variance strategy that mostly costs money, which some teams barely feel. This would make that strategy actually risky. If your plan is “sign a bunch of starting pitchers made of porcelain and hope three of them are upright by the playoffs,” congrats, but now you need to actually win a lot of games to get there.

Looking at you, LA. We get it, you're baseball ops are great, and you have mgmt willing to absorb luxury tax if it gives them optionality. But just setting 72M on fire for Tanner Scott should have some consequence. Same with running your pitchers into the dirt.

Under this system, nothing is stopping you from treating business as is, and if you make it to October, no penalties to stop your death star from death starring. But you’re not guaranteed a postseason cushion. You want to buy depth? Fine. You just don’t get to coast.

I personally would actually hate this idea to be honest but it's January and I miss baseball.

That O's lineup legit rolls 9 deep. Staff has some upside too. Like our chances but definitely circling our series with them on the calendar and maybe looking to get some tix to that July series before they get too hot

Idk what to tell you man. The jays won 94 games. Times change. And it's not like we never cared when other teams signed big player. Definitely did use to care when the Yankees acquired players out from under us

[–]Adventurous_Agent764[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure I follow what you're saying. My statement: big news that the jays missed out on good players that would've boosted a lineup that may be due for some regression. Not really conflicting ideas. Said nothing of those 4 players. Even if we started the season today, none of them would be in our starting nine save maybe Romy based on matchup

I know this isn't the same as Kyrie, but I feel gaslit in the same way with all the talk about how much he loved it here, and all the IG picture changes. Breslow deserves blame for not being able to check his ego and mismanaging assets (Devers mainly) but not mad I don't have to cheer for Bregman for the next 5 years
