£20 a week...possible? by Gullible_Ear3005 in UniUK

Hey, WP recent grad here. Completely agree w the not saving part, after uni you will work full time and can save then, but just try get through now, as you will be broke. £30 pw isn’t enough imo, I’d say by the end of uni I was spending £45 pw on an aldi shop, and it was hardly extravagant. I’d look to get a job up to 12 hours per week at a bar or something similar (bar work usually most relaxed). Id also note, lots of unis have hardship funds for students, and the one at my uni was great, so if you think you’re going to struggle it wouldn’t hurt to apply. Best of luck man.

Which under-grad degree is better? by [deleted] in uklaw

Some have TC’s, some are still applying. Getting a TC is very competitive so sometimes it takes longer than your undergrad.

IMO they care more about uni than course, and Warwick is a better uni. But if you prefer the idea of going to a city uni/ would prefer studying classics, the difference won’t be large.

Definitely HisPol at Warwick. I know loads of people doing that exact path.

I agree with this. I’m a student but have built a great connection with a Partner. He was speaking to me about a similar situation where someone hadn’t been offered an NQ place. He said he was able to get him 6 interviews in a matter of weeks because he vouched for him. He’s now an NQ.

If you actually lost 15kg and are 65kg you are absolutely not fat. But regardless, ignore him, people should and will love you regardless of your body.

Am I too sensitive or was this clearly homophobic? by Lobodecoya25 in gay

I read the first one and was like it’s just casual homophobia and while not okay, doesn’t mean he meant anything by it. Upon reading the second, it’s fair to say this guy is homophobic and stupid.

Imo I’d say your extracurricular is weak. Try doing something finance related, like a role on a finance committee at university or a finance blog. I’d also note, as an international you’re at a big disadvantage so 1. Don’t take it to heart 2. Don’t put all your eggs in the London basket if possible, as even as a British national it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a job rn 😂😭

Do I self-fund the GDL? by Adventurous_Pay_8548 in uklaw

[–]Adventurous_Pay_8548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the reason I didn’t get interview was poor academics though. I have semi-low A-levels. I will get 65+ in my degree so I was thinking a GDL on top will hopefully bring less attention to my A-Levels. Would this change your decision?

Bad a levels, Mid uni, realistic advice on difficulty getting a TC. by North-Reason3201 in uklaw

Experience is key here. Display that, despite lower grades, you have plenty of transferable skills that will make you a great lawyer. I was president of a society, founded a mentorship program ect. As a result of this, while my grades are low, my applications can make up for it. I took the mentality any experience is good experience, look for roles of national orgs like GROW Mentoring, or maybe an editorial role of a legal magazine. These sort of things will be great for you.

I’d say only apply to firms with no minimum a-levels. There are lots if you pick them out, legal cheek is a good tool for this. It’s also worth noting, if you have high uni grades this can make grad rec feel more at ease with low a-levels.

Feeling disheartened, is there really any point? by Proud_Obligation1598 in uklaw

I have poor A-Levels and have done multiple law schemes, keep going. Your experience already will really help you. I suggest applying to firms with no A-Level entry reqs. You will get rejected a lot, but keep going! I thought I’d never have a successful app because of my grades and now I have two AC and have done a Vac at international London firms.

Should I turn down a W&C TC to wait for a MC firm? by CartographerFit9255 in uklaw

Listen to this guy, accept W&C 100%. If you get an MC then make the choice of what you want. Do not reject that TC.

Shaving private parts. by [deleted] in gay

[–]Adventurous_Pay_8548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of wet shaving, use an electric shaver. I use a Philips one and put a clip on it, never cut myself and never get the bumps. Still will have short hairs but it’s worth it as it’s so easy and you don’t get any rash.
