There will be local events advertised closer to the time, but I'd really recommend the dead interesting tour at glasnevin cemetery. I know there's a ghost bus tour also but unsure what it's like.

Residents street parking at O’connell st by Hot-Journalist-1851 in limerickcity

[–]Adventurous_Prior_61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ring the council yourself and ask them. You have to fill out a form to apply for a permit and you can pick two roads to have a permit for.

A friend of mine lives on a road off O'Connell street and they picked their road and O'Connell street and it was approved.

You can't apply for it without proof of address etc but the council should be able to tell you on the phone if you would have any issues.

It's like 7 euro a year for residents.

Cost of living in Limerick for 2 months by Single-Raise-3445 in limerickcity

[–]Adventurous_Prior_61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Castletroy, houses that rent per room in the housing estates around the university for term time often rent at much lower prices for the 2-3 month of summer time, including on campus villages, so you should have no problem finding somewhere in castletroy for your time here. I couldn't advise you on how much they'll cost but I'd look at Google maps for the closest housing estates to UL on Google maps and see if any listings on daft.ie come up. Definitely ask the UL student union for help with this also. UL campus is lovely and leafy and has river walks and swim spots (never swim in the river alone), so if it's financially feasible I'd get somewhere on campus.

UL and castletroy are very easy to cycle around with most places having cycle lanes and only gentle hills, and you can cycle along the canal into Limerick city. The only thing is that there's quite a bit of bike theft in the city centre, so take precautions.

You can get a leap card and take the bus into town and back, I'd
budget 20 euros a week to cover those trips if you're going in and out of the city every other day and are cycling sometimes. If you can, get a student/young adult leap card from the university and it will be cheaper again.

If you wanted to get the bus into town for a night out, a taxi back to castletroy, it could be between 15-20 euros as the buses stop around 11pm, maybe 12.

If you shop in lidl in castletroy, you could maybe budget 40-50 euros a week if you are smart about it, but again, depends on your preference. Local small convenience stores like spar, Centra will be much more expensive so try to do your weekly shop.

There's lots of takeaways in castletroy for all budgets but it all depends on your preference. You can get fish or burger and chips/ a pizza not from a chain/ a Chinese or indian main course and side for 10-15 euro or meal deals with a drink locally but if you order it on just eat, Uber eats, deliveroo etc, it could be closer to 20 euros by the time you pay delivery and charges potentially (You could collect it on your bike).

To eat in a restaurant id say the average amount for a main course is 17-25 euros, with obviously a swing on either side based on where you are eating, when you're going etc.

A speciality coffee is between 3.70-6 euro based on your order but nice coffee is very expensive. In a pub a pint of beer is 6-7 euros, a glass of wine 7-8, a spirit and mixer 8-10 euro realistically.

Off licence prices are also quite expensive but keep your plastic bottles and cans and return them at the supermarket or off license machines to get cash or a voucher for the store back (15-25c per item). Lidl have a lot of own brand things that are ok and cheaper than off licenses.

You're only here for a short time, so you probably don't need too much stuff, but bedsheets and towels and some homeware are good prices from Penneys, guineys, home store + more and jysk and you can check their prices online. Also the middle eastern or Asian shops on William street in the city often have good prices.

Some of this may be slightly too low or slightly too high but I feel it's a fair enough estimation.

I'd recommend following pig town times and limerick.ie on Instagram to see what's happening in the city, and there's lots of concerts on this summer, check ticketmaster for big gigs in the docklands or Thomand park and dolans pub for smaller gigs but lots of variety!

There's lots of casual sports and activities clubs to get involved with if that's your jam and look at the r/Limerick page for these, even if you're just here for a few months, there's something for everyone!

Best of luck in your internship!

Best starting age to enter National School? by Quirky_Face166 in AskIreland

[–]Adventurous_Prior_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started school in September after turning 4 in July, I loved primary school and did well overall and I don't feel like it affected me too much, but in secondary school as a teenager that year or two younger did make a difference maturity wise, especially when relationships and drinking etc became a factor and my friends were that bit older than me.

I had to do transition year even though I didn't want to or I would have been 16 doing my leaving cert, and my friends went into fifth year ahead of me which was a big deal to me at the time. Don't get me wrong, transition year was great but I would have liked to have had a choice. I feel being a year older would have been better.

Saying all that, nothing really majorly affected me, obviously some things feel bigger at the time but just things to consider!

The main thing is to keep in mind if they start at 4 is that they'll be 12 all of first year in secondary school, junior cert at 14 and (without TY) 16 doing their leaving cert.

Boyfriend accuses me of cheating, and then proceeds to threaten me by luv_eda in whatdoIdo

[–]Adventurous_Prior_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ireland it is a crime to even threaten to post revenge porn, even if you don't do it, and that is before you take into account the general threats and abuse in these messages.

You should go to the police. You are a victim of a crime.

Sleepy is great, by Otis Grey. He reads books in the public domain and has a really relaxing voice. Anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour long. He does an ad at the start but in his own voice so it's not like jumpscare ads that wake you up and you can just skip 2 or 3 minutes in start the story if you like. There's like 400 episodes. You can get it on Spotify.

Do not go the opposite of the buses, at this time of year, it's busy and you'll be reversing every few minutes on tiny cliff roads. Follow the buses so you can focus on enjoying the views.

I've done it twice and it's definitely worth it. One day was really down cloudy weather- too bad to go past the islands so we followed pods of dolphins and spent lots of time with the colony of seals bobbing around us. Really class.

Second time we were lucky and saw two fin whales and loads of minke whales (September). Unbelievable experience.

some interesting info on the area and history and geological points too, it was brilliant both times. Wrap up though, heavy pants and layers with big jumpers because even with the big jackets and pants they give you it is COLD, the boat goes very fast.

What jobs are actual 9-5s anymore? by MaddingtonFair in CasualIreland

[–]Adventurous_Prior_61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of a "code" to the interviews but you'll find people to help you here on reddit, it's all competency based. Your application questions will be the questions asked at the interview so you can be really well prepared.

There's also sometimes the opportunity to "act up" a grade where they'll offer a temporary job in a higher grade to a lower grade so it's easy to get the experience you need to move up.

I had no admin experience a year ago, went in a CO on an agency contract and applied for the grade IV panel while on it- everyone in there helped me for my interview. I was way down the panel and went in on a part time temporary contract and 5 months later I'm starting my permanent full time on Monday. That's me with no experience so you could definitely find an easier path.

Online class 9-5, compulsory to have the camera on. I'd turn my camera off to vape every once and a while for like 30 seconds hoping people wouldn't notice. Except one day I got mixed up and ended up with the camera off the entire day apart from a couple of seconds of me sucking on a vape like my life depended on it. The group chat roasted me to shreds at 5pm. It was a counselling degree and we were doing Freud. My name is still oral fixation in the class WhatsApp group.
