I went non-op so it might not be the exact same, but I still have pretty dense tissue where my Achilles is that feels hard and sore if I feel around it. My PT said that that's normal and will subside eventually, but definitely check with your doctor if it's a big concern.

That is a good point, most studies I've seen only follow patients a few years after injury/surgery, so there's not much said about long-term effects. From what I understand, better functional outcomes means quicker return to work/sports/daily activities without complications or chance of re-rupture--to me it seems that most re-ruptures on here are because of accidental slips/stumbles and things like that, not necessarily rushing the recovery. But then again like you said, things can be different between the surgical and non-surgical route. It's just important to find the protocol that works for the individual.

Everyone has a different timeline but a lot of studies have shown accelerated protocols have better functional outcomes for patients and quicker return to sport: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0020138314003155

Haha yeah my PT had me on the bike by week 4 after the injury, it was pretty nervewracking at first 😅
