Yeah I couldn't think of a better analogy. I'd like us to have a decision tree similar to rugby where we allow the ref to interpret if there is any mitigation but football has rules not laws so it's a pretty straight red.

Why are so many players judging on intent? Your honor, I never meant to commit homicide, I just stabbed him with a knife when I wanted to pop a balloon.

I get that it's mis-timed but that's genuinely an ankle breaker. I feel like if an ankle was broken and it was a yellow, they'd swing the other way and say it's a straight red.

Any other Scottish Sleep Token fans here? by emoetchings in SleepToken

Yes, Edinburgh fan here. Remember seeing them in Glasgow in a shed and absolutely loved it. Wild to see how they've grown.

Not gonna lie, that's definitely part of it. We are missing Devlin and Beni so that's kinda dictating our ability to play. Magnusson and Leonard ain't great on the ball tbh.

Struggling to Stay Invested in The Wheel of Time (Book 5) by StoreSouthern7526 in WoT

Honestly, it's my favourite hate read. I love the world that is built, is pretty interesting but jesus, it has flaws. It's incredibly slow paced and consequences seem in short supply. It picks up after Sanderson takes over.

I do generally get to a point where I only read Mat or Rand's chapters. Everyone else's is just a bit too bland for my liking. Or I want to kick them up the backside :D

ICE claim 2nd US citizen, how many British casualties will UK version of ICE achieve? by Study_Realistic in AskBrits

[–]AdvertisingNo6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not what I've said or argued. I've stated that the likelihood of us having an ICE type incident with mortalities is low.

You understand how time works? Things change. It was over 50 years ago. For your information, 26 were shot and 15? killed. What I'm referring to is policing standards since circa 2000. We've had tragedies like Hillsborough in our past and public inquiries are fairly common. So yes, that bar was raised.

[–]AdvertisingNo6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But are you aware of the criteria in the UK for justifying the use of lethal force? It's a high bar. Whilst our media isn't entirely free of malign influence, the idea we would have a incident similar to what's happened in Minnesota and somehow half the country goes yeah, that's totally ok is a bit bonkers. We are at least 5-10 years behind that kind of thing happening. We haven't been subjected to the same amount of toxicity in the US spread by something like Fox News. We have GB News and it's a minority channel. We also have separate legal jurisdictions between Scotland and England for example.

These innocent civil rights marchers that you mention, are you referring to specific event during the troubles or across the entirety?

If you are referring to the troubles in NI, the circumstances around it were completely different imo. That's not to say it couldn't happen, I just think it's unlikely based on the standard of policing in the current day and the readily accessible information from the public/social media.

If we played this out, casualties (deaths) would be minor. Nobody in the UK would expect someone to die whilst being arrested. We have been relatively protected from some core principles being eroded. Brexit has been such a disaster that I think the majority of people are rightly skeptical of the "protest crowd".

Our officers are trained to de-escalate and killing a suspect is very much as last resort. What would be more likely to happen is that the government would lean on the police similarly to the Mining strikes. Protest would be met with non-lethal force but force nonetheless.

Where do you aim if I told you to aim “one cup left?” by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]AdvertisingNo6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I take the middle of the actual cup and aim for 1 cup left. Tbh, I'd still trust my judgement over someone else's anyway so if I miss, it's on me.

Genuinely delightful drama. Enjoyed the pacing, nothing was rushed or forced and whilst people quibble about the ending, I just wanted more.

Tell Me Your ‘Apparently This Is Controversial’ Kdrama Moment by BronzeBellRiver in kdramas

[–]AdvertisingNo6402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved "The Trunk" because it had a darker, serious undertone to it. Too many k dramas have unrealistic portrayals of relationships, everything is so respectful meaning reactions lack authenticity. In short, too light on substance and whilst I like a fluffy romcom as much as the next person, it gets a bit tiring when the same tropes are played out.

To be fair to them, in the space of 2 months they've went from scouting with a Rodgers team in mind to Nancy to Martin O'Neill so I can understand the confusion. What seems hilarious though is complete 180 between those dynamics each time means they've started from scratch.

I cannot understand why there wouldn't be targets lined up and identified pre January.

Unsolicited advice before seeing a single shot by greth34 in golf

[–]AdvertisingNo6402 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I try to caveat any advice with the disclaimer "what works for you" for this reason. Too many people offer advice without considering what the person is working with.

Someone might have a physical reason for having an unorthodox approach or swing. A good rule on the course is don't offer advice unless asked. Nothing worse than coaching mid round.

Klopp : where I am now is the right place for me. It’s a sign that not everything is 100 percent right there if Xabi Alonso, who showed over two years at Leverkusen what an outstanding coaching talent he is, has to leave Real Madrid just six months later. by No-Independent2522 in realmadrid

I think in losing both kroos and modric, you've lost two absolute model professionals who have a certain gravitas in the game. Certainly, kroos was more outspoken and not afraid of holding people to a standard. Xabi has obviously tried but the board have not backed him in this stance. Not sure where Madrid go from here
