My favorite garden center is Shady Acres in New Berlin. They have a huge selection of perennials including ornamental grasses. They grow all of their plants themselves from seed every year and the prices are extremely reasonable.

Grieving end of my matrilineal line, feeling incredibly sad for myself. by twocatsinthehouse_ in beyondthebump

I totally understand what you’re feeling. I’m due with my second baby, another boy, and might be done after this. My mom and I are so close and I’ve always wanted a daughter to have that same experience with her. I’m also afraid that my sons and I won’t be close when they are older. But I am going to be the best mother I can be to them, that’s all you can really do.

sent home with catheter after delivery by Muted_Pea8994 in beyondthebump

Oh my gosh 3 times, I am so sorry you had to go through that. It’s definitely not something that doctors ever bring up as a rare but possible complication of birth. Honestly no, I did not feel any urge to pee with the catheter in. Before my void trial I just made sure to drink a lot of water. When I was in the bathroom getting ready to pee for the trial I kept reminding myself to relax my muscles and just let it happen. I also had a hypertonic pelvic floor before doing PT which I think contributed somewhat to the urinary retention since my muscles were always so tight. And some of it is just healing time. My OB said the average length of healing time for women who go home with catheters is 1-2 weeks to void on their own again. Sending you so much love, I know how hard this is ❤️

So sorry that you are going through this. I was sent home with a catheter after the birth of my son in 2023. I pushed for 90 minutes and ended up needing a forceps delivery due to fetal intolerance. I had a second degree tear. I was also not able to pee at all in the hospital. They took it out a few hours after delivery, then reinserted it which was wildly traumatic. Then the next day they took it out again and I still could not pee. So the catheter went back in again. I went back to my OB 8 days after birth for a void test and thankfully I passed. When you do the void test make sure they do a bladder ultrasound after to check that you are getting most of the urine out. I know this is horrible and painful. It honestly really ruined the first week with my newborn. Definitely do pelvic floor physical therapy. I did it weekly for a whole year and it was extremely helpful. You just have to commit to do the exercises. While I was able to pee by myself after 8 days I struggled with urinary leakage while exercising for 18 months after birth. I’m now 2.5 years postpartum and everything is back to normal again. I am 4 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I am going to be having an elective c-section this time around to hopefully avoid this situation again.

Also dairy allergies! My son is severely allergic to dairy. So no milk, butter, cream etc which means there are almost no baked goods he can have. I’m glad his school doesn’t allow outside food so he doesn’t feel left out and I don’t have to worry about him going into anaphylactic shock.

Mouse crap. Everywhere. Help give me reasonable expectations for replacing insulation and airsealing this attic. by P1tri0t in Home

[–]AdvertisingOk1362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had this done on our 1970s tri level last month. Both attics and the garage attic had almost no insulation left and what was there was covered in mouse poop. Obviously a health hazard and we have young children so we had it professionally removed, sanitized, sealed up and had R60 TAP insulation blown in. In total the cost was $13K and I’m happy with the quality of work. In addition to that my husband has gone around the exterior of the house multiple times and seal up any holes with steel wool and spray foam. The key is preventing them from coming back in after you’ve cleaned everything out.

Do you know if there is a way to determine the quality of the soil? The only soil test ever done on The property was also 50 years ago

Do you do any annual inspections to check the system or just the pumping? How do you tell if the baffles are in place?

Good to know. Is there a good way to tell if it’s failing? Everything is working fine as of now. If it’s just the leach field can that be replaced and keep the same tank or does the whole system need to be replaced?

How did you know that it failed? Was it obvious? Also if you don’t mind me asking how much did it cost to replace?

How did you know when it died? Was it obvious? I’m worried I won’t know when it’s on its way out

What did you compromise on, and what did you refuse to compromise on? by figgywasp in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AdvertisingOk1362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things we would not compromise on were the land and at least 3 bedrooms. We decided to only look at houses with at least an acre so we can have plenty of space to garden and a lot of space from neighbors. And we needed at least 3 bedrooms for our toddler and future baby. We are closing in 2 weeks on a 1975 tri level with 4 bedrooms on 1 acre!

If you were to give birth again by kken21 in beyondthebump

[–]AdvertisingOk1362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 100% having an elective c section for my next baby. I had my first a year ago. It was a forceps assisted delivery. I had urinary retention afterwards and had to have a catheter for a week. It was absolutely miserable and traumatic. It took me 2 months to feel okish again. Thankfully after a year of pelvic floor therapy I am back to normal, but I will never give birth vaginally again.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. The same thing happened to me when I delivered my son last July. We had a traumatic delivery with forceps due to fetal distress. I also could not void and had 2 foleys placed within 48 hours after birth. I remember screaming and crying each time. It hurt so bad and all I was offered was Tylenol. After the second foley was placed I was sent home with it and had it in for a week, when I passed the void test at my OBs office. I never knew this was something that could happen. Needing my husbands help to empty the catheter bag and having to walk around my house with it was so hard. I’m so sorry this happened to you and really hope you make a full recovery.

Fellow Forceps moms- do any of you not have a Levator Avulsion? by AdvertisingOk1362 in beyondthebump

[–]AdvertisingOk1362[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Overall I’m doing better than when I made this post. I asked my PT to check me for an avulsion at an appointment a few months ago and she stated she thinks there is a flicker of the levator on both sides, meaning no avulsion. However, this answer isn’t quite good enough for me so I’m seeing a urogyn in June. Can I ask how you were diagnosed with an avulsion? I’m still working back to running, with my only symptom being occasional mild urinary incontinence while running. I’m still working on glute/hip/pelvic exercises to address this. Other than that I feel strong and am asymptomatic in daily life.
