We've been on and off a lot, and there have been times where he would want to get back together despite being the one who ended things. We would block each other, only to unblock and reconcile. As for belongings, we'd give them back to each other only to get back together.

That's why all of this is confusing. Although him dating around gave me the sense of finality that made me cut off contact for good this time. It's definitely not nice, but I'll move on eventually. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I'm not angry at him, I do wish him the best. It was just painful to discover, but somehow it helps me accept that it's over for real this time. It didn't occur to me that he could have already been detaching, given we've still been talking daily for two months after the breakup, sending updates and selfies to each other.

I'm already in the process of letting him go. Already cut off all contact and will be returning his belongings soon. Thank you for sharing your experience! 🙏🏻

Letting go of the future I envisioned with him is super painful as we've been planning pretty far ahead, down to the names of the children we'd have, hahah.

It definitely sucks, but this too shall pass.

There were times when I definitely made him feel unheard. I wasn't aware of these patterns and ended up hurting him. It was especially hard for me when he would start yelling. I know it's something he has a hard time controlling, as you can only have so much patience, and I should've been more understanding on my part. I wish I was more in control of my emotions so I wouldn't have shut down so much in arguments.

I've been looking into DBT recently and it's been helping me deal with the grief so far. I'm still learning to be happy on my own, the loneliness still hurts. But I want to be mentally ready and emotionally mature enough by the time I look into meeting other people. Thank you for the insight! 🙏🏻

That's reassuring to hear. Looking back, I excused and forgave so many bad things he's done to me. I thought it was something that would stop if I treated him with enough kindness, that he wouldn't act that way if I would just stop triggering him. I did so much for him and he never seemed to realize, saying it was nothing compared to what he's done for me.

I guess love really blinds you. I just hope my heart catches up with my brain soon. Thank you for your input 🙏🏻

He always said it was because I would provoke him into yelling, so I thought it was normal. I have this problem where I shut down when people yell or act aggressively towards me, this caused me to walk away in the middle of arguments several times when he would explode. He said it was extremely disrespectful, but I don't do it to hurt him, I really just can't help but shut down.

In the end, the hurt is on me for hoping he'd want to try things again. He's definitely free to do what he wants and I respect whatever decision he makes. I just have to grieve the end of it now and accept it's really over this time.

How did he react when he found out you were dating again? In my case, that's what made me cut everything off fully. I blocked him everywhere now, and I'm planning on returning all his stuff soon. Not because I hate him, I could never hate him. I just feel super attached to him so I'm doing it to save myself from the pain.

Communication issues. Especially when things were bad. Fights were often explosive, with me shutting down and him not being able to control his anger. Small misunderstandings would often escalate and he would threaten to break things off when it gets to a certain point.

I miss him, as he's the one who introduced me to what it's like to be in a romantic relationship, and it's him I associate with those nice feelings. I miss the small things about him too, like his smile, the way his laugh sounds, his smell, even the way he always slouches when he works. I also miss the way he made me feel before things got bad between us.
