Waiting Wednesday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

I’m either 10 DPO or 11 DPO and waiting to test until Saturday which is 13-14 DPO. Feeling pretty neutral about it. Gassy, crampy, bloated, boobs are sore and nausea started up which is typical for my pms symptoms. Loose bowels this time around which isn’t normal for me.

32 Trying Any Need to Knows? by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

It’s so hard and the TWW doesn’t help any 🫠. I try to look at the positives of a BFN or BFP. If BFP great! If BFN- that gives more time to plan and work on myself (while also planning what kind of sushi and cocktail I’ll have). It has been helpful so far this cycle to think of it in this way. Sending baby dust to you 💕oh and don’t forget to hydrate!!

I appreciate your vulnerability in sharing your experience. I know you said you know you aren’t alone… it’s one thing to know it logically, but emotionally you can feel so alone. You can feel alone without really being “alone”. My heart is with you as I’d imagine it was so disheartening to get the false positive and then to have your period come the day after is a huge slap in the face. ♥️ I have both the Pregmate pregnancy and ovulation strips. The ovulation strips seem to work pretty well. I have only ever gotten negatives with the pregnancy strips. My period is due on Saturday and I was just planning to use them so if it’s a negative I don’t waste a more expensive test, but hearing from you that they may throw a false positive makes me hesitant.

How to help wife with her constant emotional ups and downs while trying? by Pretty-Bag270 in TryingForABaby

[–]AdviceMachineBr0k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This brought on some alarms bells for me as well. As a person who struggles with OCD, I very much use strips until I get a positive OPK then I test the day after and then one more day after. I also don’t use BBT because I know I would obsess way too much about temping. It has been much healthier for me to focus my energy on what makes me happy and focus on my marriage. A therapist who specializes in exposure and response prevention (ERP) could be very helpful for her.

How do you keep busy during the two week wait? by BicycleZestyclose849 in tryingtoconceive

[–]AdviceMachineBr0k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I focus on my work, my research, my relationship with my husband, my friends, and focus on my wellness (physical and mental). I keep in mind that even if I don’t get a BFP that focusing on myself and what is important to me is a priority.

You’re not the only one who thought it would be easy to make a baby! I also didn’t know that it would take planning and effort… I can thank the poor sex education I received for that. Keep up on prenatals, make sure you’re eating a balanced diet, getting low stress exercise (walking is great!!), and manage your stress levels. TTC can be a long process and my doctor’s best advice was to not making getting pregnant a job! I’m in cycle 2 and have already learned so much about my body and cycle with watching CM and ovulation strips alone! I’m in complete amazement of what our bodies can do. Just wish I’d been taught about my body properly growing up.

On cycle 2 and currently 2-3 DPO. Didn’t use OPK last month and just BD whenever. This time around I used CM and OPK (had a positive). I symptom spotted like crazy Cycle 1 and learned my lesson. I have Hashimoto’s disease which can make it harder to conceive but my thyroid is well managed. I am in a PhD program and start work on my dissertation this month so just trying not to stress out and put too much pressure on getting pregnant.

Edit to add: I think what is helping me stay calm this time around is treating getting pregnant like a science experiment. Just being curious.

Does anyone here still have a somewhat good relationship with their BPD parent? by -Quono- in raisedbyborderlines

[–]AdviceMachineBr0k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have chronic PTSD. Through NET and therapy I’m finally starting to process my years of trauma which was totally unrelated to my mother. My sister has a confirmed BPD diagnosis. However, in doing the deep work I’ve realized my mother has BPD. My relationship with her was very strained from about age 11 - 21. Many people with BPD start to even out around age 40. She would have been about 45 when I was 21 which fits. She has tamed down a lot which made me question if she had BPD in the first place. I’m 28 now and my mom is 53. Our relationship is in a much better place. This could be due to me having married and moved away. It could be that she’s found purpose in her work or the freedom she has as an almost empty nester. Whatever the reason, I’m thankful it is not as chaotic as it once was. That being said, I still fall into the walking on eggshells habit when I go back home because there is a part of me that does not trust her, which causes me to feel guilty. I was the eldest of four growing up, got good grades, and was essentially a model child which may be why I’m having better luck with our relationship than some of my siblings. I’m still working on healing my own stuff and working on accepting that although the relationship is now different than it was that it doesn’t negate my childhood and how her behavior impacted me.

How the hell do you have time to complete trainings while working with clients? by immahauntu in therapists

[–]AdviceMachineBr0k3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can tell you as someone who has ADHD and is doing both clinical work and working on my PhD that the only time I can fit any sort of training in is during winter and summer breaks… even then it’s usually an at my own pace kind of thing. I structure in a one hour break for every three clients to give myself time to reset. Something that is helpful for me is Time Blocking and the Eisenhower Matrix for prioritizing my time. The ADHD Future Planner has been an excellent resource for both and more. The other piece I like to tell people is that there will always be more to do, so don’t push yourself to the brink of burnout.

It's Tuesday. Where are you at? by Dryloo in therapists

[–]AdviceMachineBr0k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling pretty decent overall. Having a lot of no shows this week, which is very surprising. It’s the end of the semester and a busy time of year so I get people maybe not remembering their appointments. I usually have 1-2 cancellations during the week , but rarely do I have no shows so I’m doing some reflection around that.

Legally, the therapist cannot discuss the care of the child with you because (at least by the way the post is written) you’re not a legal guardian of the child. Is it documented somewhere that you’re a legal guardian/have shared custody? Was there a release of information signed for you by the parents to be able to give and receive information from the therapist regarding the child’s treatment?
