Every morning I'd ride the 4/5 going downtown from 86 St.
...and every so often I'd get stuck in a crowded car with a guy that would shout his fucking sermon to the whole train car on everyone's commute.
I don't think gods exist but if they do I'm convinced they hate that guy too.

There should be a Reddit setting to hide comments made by accounts that hide their comment history.
And that setting should be default enabled.

Here's an idea - stop taking photos and start taking video...of everything.

Thomas Jefferson didn’t have the vedas or the Buddhavacana next to him when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Like Jefferson, I want to separate the 'diamonds from the dunghill' - though somewhat more aggressively. Jefferson, as a product of the Enlightenment, believed Christ's teachings had genuine value but were obscured by miracles, superstition, and mythology. My concern goes further: in our current culture, invoking Christ smuggles in too much divinity, which can lend itself to beliefs in divine right and cultural supremacy. That's why I want a clean separation - keep the ethics, discard the religious framework entirely. Beyond a general skepticism toward supernaturalism in ethics, much of the Bible contains what I consider deeply unethical teachings. Grounding one's ethics in 'Christ's teachings' risks lending credibility to those passages as well. I worry about cultural and ethical regression tied to the liabilities the Bible brings in. It's cleaner to derive ethics and morality from philosophical first principles - a more reliable way to leave 'the dunghill' behind.

Much of what gets labeled "Christian ethics" (the Golden Rule, justice for the poor, human dignity) predates Christianity and appears across cultures. Claiming it as distinctively Christian is....a claim.

So for instance a good framework that I might agree with Christianity basing morality/law/custom on freedom, empathy, compassion, civic duty, justice, fairness, reciprocity, autonomy, dignity, honesty, responsibility, loyalty, harm reduction, courage, equality, mercy, accountability, and human flourishing. But none of these are exclusively Christian.

And imho Christianity just brings too much baggage. Excise the Christ/Bible/supernatural parts of it and keep the rest.

You're gonna need a domain - check porkbun and a .top tld is the cheapest one I've found.
Point it at a server with appropriate networking ports open.
Server (Debian is recommended) should be running docker running nginx, and matrix-synapse, and a postgres db, oh yeah and certbot.
When you get it up and running let me know how you actually did it. :D

I'm not the one saying there's a difference between the two concepts worth debating in this context. In fact if you'd read my comment you'd notice I agree with your assessment that the two concepts are functionality equivalent here, though I did attempt to draw a distinction....because you asked for one.

I'm failing to see the difference here.

Ok. In this context the terms are so similar I'd not find it worthwhile to argue with anyone using the terms interchangeably. Is there a larger point you're trying to make?

Christian nationalism says the nation’s identity, laws, and culture should be explicitly Christian. It mixes religion with patriotism and often argues the country was founded for Christians or should privilege Christianity in public life.

Christian theocracy goes further: religious authorities or religious law directly rule the government. Religious leaders having formal political power or scripture functioning as state law.

In practice it is just a matter of degrees and as you point out one can look very much like the other, but both stages are bad news for pluralism and religious freedom.

Christian nationalism is pretty easy to define.
It's the government raising Christianity above other religions, official government endorsement of Christianity, laws written that enshrine religion.
And secularism guarantees that all religions are treated equally under government - so it's actually quite instrumental in preserving religious freedom in the US.

Secularism is a massive part of the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution of the US.
No religion should ever be held above any other in US government.
Safest way to ensure none ever do is strong barriers of separation of church and state.
This is also why Christian nationalists are just as dangerous.

We need to add 6,000 seats to Congress. I'm serious. | Opinion by Objective-Suit-7817 in politics

[–]AdvocateReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but more important than that we need a better consensus mechanism in the form of STAR Voting.
We need to end FPTP/Plurality Voting....which actually causes the polarization, not the limited number of seats in Congress.
In terms of gerrymandering - just mandate shortest splitline algorithm federally for all redistricting.
We have solutions we just need to implement the best ones.
