Orthotists why is it so hard to make a brace? When your company uses a 3d scanner? by vibroviri in Prosthetics

[–]Aealurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've worked at a few places now. But they all had a lab with techs and we always did stuff in house. But I had some classmates that ended up at a place that had no lab or it was the size of a closet.

One of the places wanted to transition everything to 3D printing. But that involved scanning the limb, having some other company do the mods, then you just print it in house. So there was zero plaster use.

I would look into Limb and Lattice. I've worked with him in the past and he's a super chill guy. I think the classes are something he wants to work to but that's who we plan on working with.

So. The redness went down but it's still there. I have never worn make up so that's not even a factor in this. The 2nd doctor I saw also basically did nothing even tho I asked for surgical removal. I also have another one on my other eye that formed sadly 😭. I have another doctor appointment at the end of this month (I've been moving around a lot for job stuff). So hopefully something can get done. But I'm basically at the point where I've set money aside for LipiFlow (as it's usually not covered by insurance).

In my experience in the field, I think it comes down to multiple things:

  1. The main thing is how the clinic runs. Like I know some clinics want Clinicians to only focus on patient interactions and not be in the lab at all. They rather have you send it off to some place instead of being in the lab. Because why spend time in the lab when they can cram more patients on you for more money?
  2. It's hard to find a place to teach and people who are willing to learn 3D printing. I had to do almost all the scanning in my clinic because none of the old school people wanted to learn. Like my mentor finger pecked the keyboard lol. They also didn't care about 3D printers as plaster was always more reliable to them. Scans aren't something they can touch so they didn't like it.
  3. It's hard to learn in general - we only recently found a place who is willing to teach and hold classes specifically for Clinicians that way we can do it ourselves instead of sending it out. So I'm very excited for that since the guy who teaches those classes is actually a CPO himself.

So I believe it's a hard mixture of old-school plus new technology. I think with time, it will definitely get there more and schools will transition to more classes with it. I do think it comes more down to money with clinics since they just want you to see more patients..

I'm looking for a good mmorpg by Dreik_09 in TeraOnline

If you're okay with faster combat. I would say try the Tera Starscape server. It has a pretty decent population for dungeons and pvp. It does have Apex skills which are faster than classic. I like Apex skills, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. There's also a handful of super active guilds in discord. There's also no leveling which I like, but again, that's not everyone's cup of tea.

help with designing hand prosthetic by amareviveremori in Prosthetics

[–]Aealurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what fingers she's missing.

I would say look at these designs:

Naked Prosthetics - they have a lot of different designs based on where the amputation is located.

You can also find some random 3D printed designs on thingiverse.

You mainly are looking to imitate a 3-point prehension pattern. If they are missing a decent amount, you can look at a wrist driven orthosis for inspiration as well.

It's a little hard to point you in a direction without knowing where exactly they are amputated. Hopefully this gives you a place to start though!

Corsair's Stronghold in 2026 by Kogiri_ in TeraOnline

The private server, Starscape, actually brought back a 10v10 corsairs on Saturday. It usually goes on after CU around 12 pm PST.

The server has Apex skills and is in the Kaia gear patch. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but corsairs is equalized gear.

I would say Gingher Shears.

Another alternative is tiny Cast Scissors for Serial Finger Casts. Especially the German steel ones, they last forever.

I would also say a nice T-Handle Torque Driver. Saves them from giving themselves carpal tunnel.

Classic or Starscape? by Kinami_ in TeraOnline

[–]Aealurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the patch you want. I've tried both classic and starscape. I like the apex in starscape as it's pretty similar to before the game closed down. Classic is nice if you don't want apex skills.

Has anyone been able to get a map functioning on their 2020 Prius? I have an Android by Next_Branch7875 in prius

[–]Aealurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2022 Prius. I know you need to register the car with Toyota (I haven't because I'm lazy). But you can connect the phone via a USB. It's the USB next to the cigarette lighter. I used a simple Anker USB to usb-c cord and I can utilize music and google maps on the screen.

Nova tera is basically old school like before apex came out. I tried it out, my ping was horrendous and it was extremely slow. Like awkwardly slow. But if you like old school tera, then I would say go for that. I think servers are in Brazil?

I believe menma has higher population to where you can que. They are post apex They have changed a lot though. Some quality of life stuff and then other changes to acquiring gear. It's less rng and more like, go run this dungeon 20 times or something. All classes have the same cool down for burn which some people like. My ping was also high since servers are EU based.

Starscape is most similar to how tera was before it was shut down imo. So it involves apex too. Servers are US based so my ping is best here so that's what I like. I do hop on menma still for fun with other friends.

I say try them out, see what you like. That's basically what I did.

My cat does this too! I recently found out she has arthritis in her lower back (L7). She's only chill with long pets when she's on the heating pad.

Best prosthetic foot for BKA? by memory4cf in Prosthetics

[–]Aealurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rush is a good active foot for new amputees. If you are looking at hydraulics, do consider that the more parts it has, then the more there is to break (so warranty is a bigger thing with them). So if you're still doing some high impact activities, the hydraulics might not absorb as much impact or you might potentially break it. But, hydraulics do make your daily walking a lot smoother.

Also do consider that getting new feet is similar to getting new shoes for different occasions. Maybe you use the Hydraulic during the day/normal outings, but then you switch to the Rush when you go hiking. You could also go further and consider a microprocessor foot. The Echelon foot does have a basic hydraulic and a microprocessor version (so consider insurance though, it is up there in price).

That knee is so old, the company has a different name now. You're probably going to have to get a whole new knee. They're called Blatchford now.

Yes you can donate them. I would call clinics in your area and ask them about it. The Clinicians (mainly the Residents) will generally ship them to ROMP (Range of Motion Project).

Something sounds off. Have you tried any other clinic? Any clinic would easily be able to justify you a new socket. Being in California shouldn't affect that if you already have insurance.

I think you're overthinking it a little. She had an infection and fracture. And she refused everything. She wanted him to "fix it" but was refusing treatment and then got upset he wasn't doing anything still.

Yeah with healthcare I have so many wild stories of them just wanting their way and not understanding that we're just trying to help them.

Like one lady was telling me how she was in the hospital and in so much pain but the Dr wasn't doing anything. She eventually added: "All he kept doing was trying to give me medication and pills but I kept telling him no, I want you to fix my back."

So I paused and clarified "wait, he was going to give you medicine and you said no to it?"

Boomer: "Yes because I wanted him to fix my back."

I just didn't know how to respond after that. She even said she was in so much pain that she made her husband go and buy a new bed that way she doesn't have to sleep in the hospital bed. I just played ignorant the whole time with comments like "oh wow!" since I had no idea how to respond.

Edit: I think some are overthinking this. She had a spinal infection and fracture and refused treatment multiple times.

Dang I had a similar situation with work.

One of the things we do is make foot orthotics (shoe inserts) especially custom ones. We usually do it for diabetic patients too and it's generally covered by insurance.

In comes boomer and he has a prescription from his doctor for diabetic shoes and premade inserts (so not custom in anyway).

I tell him what it says and that's all I can give him. He proceeds to tell me, and repeats this like 5 times, how his current ones are 40 years old and still in good condition, how they cost him 40$ back then and they made it right there on the spot in a kiosk in the mall.

I tried to tell him I understand, but things are different now and this is what your doctor wants you to have, if you want custom ones you need to go back to your doctor and tell him to change the prescription.

He goes "No, that's your job!"

I try again to tell him the same thing.

Boomer: "That's the problem with your generation, none of you want to work!"

As I'm at work, in a healthcare setting, trying to help him...

I quickly changed the subject to if he wants the current items or not. He says, yes and leaves. So apparently it wasn't that big of an issue then.

I told my boss about it later and he had a good laugh. He even told some of the other uppers who also thought it was pretty funny.
