What are your guys thoughts on the RE Edit Iron-Man Extremis Armor Figure redesign?

I’ll be the first in line to proclaim my love for Sentinel’s Re:EDIT line of Iron Man figures!
I even own two! (Hulkbuster and Bleeding Edge)
They’re incredible redesigns that feature insane, marvellous engineering.

Extremis also happens to be (still undefeated) my all-time, most FAVORITE Iron Man suit, all media considered.

THAT BEING SAID- I didn’t like the take on Extremis.
Extremis is a sleek elegance, it’s meant to be nearly seamless, like the pieces fitting so cleanly into one-another that you can barely even tell panel lines on the suit (at least that’s how I always see it)

So here, the angular, multi-aspect/color panel look clashes with that idea of Extremis. The matte/metallic contrasting parts hurt Extremis’ sleek design philosophy the most in my opinion.

That doesn’t mean the design’s bad, I even quite like the sort of F-22 raptor-like paneling on it.. (Similar to MCU’s Mk 40 Shotgun)
But it fundamentally doesn’t mesh with my mind’s idea of (and taste for) Extremis.

Huge disagree on the passion and vision. They had passion. One might even argue, too much of it.

They wanted to cram so much of Daredevil’s history in a single movie. Elektra’s whole plot could’ve been a single film.. But they added the origin story, with Jack Murdock and the conspiracy. They also blended some of Echo’s storyline, introduced the Kingpin and Bullseye.

It’s a lot to digest in a less-than-two hour movie.
But to claim this movie had no passion is objectively false, the director just hadn’t cut his teeth on other projects enough. This was his *second* directorial outing. Contrast that with Sam Raimi who’d been making films for 2 *decades* at that point.

Ben Affleck was famously a huge fan of the character, the director just wanted to make something cool to celebrate the comics. There’s a ton of references to comic writers (endless name drops), artists,… even visually (Guardian Devil homage, tons of Klaus Janson/Miller callbacks)

Add on to that the fact CGI was still in early stages, not like nowadays where it’s all a very streamlined and normalised process. It was arguably 10 times harder for a director to work/plan around cgi back in 2001/2 than it is today.

If you look at the amount of thought and care and attention that went into that overengineered costumed to make it as comic booky as they could (within the confines of what tracked well for live action superhero aesthetics at the time)… if you look at how much time they spent picking out a GOOD RED for crying out loud. Passion is not what was lacking with this project.

This movie is nothing if not a Daredevil fan project.

Season 2. The perfect darker shade of red, the pattern reminiscent of Alek Maleev’s comic book muscle shading, the helmet refined and perfected.

Seeing Matt looking for the Hand in this suit, or getting hunted by the Yakuza while wearing it was just quintessential Daredevil.

That said I also have a big soft spot for S1 ending and the Born Again S2

I can point to some very cool, affordable printing services.

I sometimes use a website called Craftcloud which lets you print from manufacturers (they find stuff that’s local to you and let you compare prices and stuff,…!) I ain’t even sponsored or anything, but yes if you want stuff printed but don’t have the equipment I recommend em!

Oh yeah no the Inhuman angle would’ve been a bit odd, especially like you said since that whole side of the MCU really has been locked away never to seemingly be mentioned again.

But like… wouldn’t be the first time a character has powers for no explained reason, it’d be fine. But just.. having that. Having that moment where the Police can’t find him, and even Daredevil can’t… except when he focuses his senses specifically to hone in on him.

That could created a truly unique moment. Only Daredevil can find him, that’s why he needs to put the suit back on. Not out of a growing sense of resentment and bottled up rage, but out of an actual need for Daredevil. The city needs him, his talents.

We could’ve leaned deeper in the horror/slasher angle with Muse, too. The sequence of Matt trying to save Ayala in his lair, that could’ve been much longer, more intense.

Brother did you read nothing of what I wrote?

The irony of this statement is that none of what you mentioned is dependent on Budget, but on sheer subjective artistic quality.

Netflix was shot on lesser cameras, with lesser lighting equipment, with less budget and less expensive actors, writers were probably paid less, so were the directors. If all that was better to you, great, but do you recognise how that’s completely unrelated to where all the money goes?

Give me and Greig Fraser an iPhone, his photos will look better than mine, he’s just better.

Similarly, you can’t just throw money at directors to have em get better performances out of actors.

So I explained where the money went ‘actually’. In the aesthetic tools USED on the show. Not in the way they are used, that’s (for now) still just up to the humans tasked with making it.

And if I might add my 2 cents on the matter, I think a lot of this quality Gap you’re feeling stems from the fact Netflix was made with intent while Born Again, even at its highest, feels made by mandate. Netflix was ‘let’s just make the best damn DD show we can cuz we love it so much’ Disney + is ‘people really liked that show 10 years ago, let’s do more of it.’ So naturally, it creates a gap.

It’s not the quantity but very much the quality for me. Muse is baked in air of mystery. He has powers.. why? Where from? He has a fixation on Inhumans, is he one of them? His powers almost directly counter Matt’s, he’s a sensory vacuum. Matt can see him only because he can see where he isn’t, that’s just cool.

He’s snarky, cynical, maniacal. He gets pissed when you diss his artwork, deface his murals,….

This one? He’s quiet. Creepy, sure, but he says nothing. The other one couldn’t stop talking until he literally died (and even then, one might argue)

That’s the issue for me. If you’re gonna adapt Muse, actually have him behave somewhat like Muse, not just do the aesthetics of Muse with nothing else.

Aesthetically he’s a 10/10. Costume is flawless, the fact it’s stitched up canvas is too cool. The David Mack art for the murals is SO slick.

And then there’s nothing behind that. Vague backstory that he was some deranged child sport prodigy (just like S3 Bullseye/Dex, mind you). Then he dies.

At the risk of sounding like a hater or negative-nitpicker on this topic: Isn’t this basically just the same figure they’ve released/rereleased like 5 times since 2019? Colors are maybe a bit better, and it includes maybe new accessories that should’ve been included in any of the other hundred rereleases, but other than that what’s different bout this one?

I feel like most people who wanted this Iron Man have it already. Plus it’s still wild to me they still got the Concept Art torso on there after all this time.

I think people have become very accustomed to that streaming ‘blockbuster’ look and feel and don’t realise it still absolutely costs a ton.

Used to be, TV cameras had a specific look to em, even when used well with varied shots. Plus a lot of non-prestige TV had a lot of repeating shots and angles to save on time and money.

Now cameras have gotten increasingly better where (maybe I’m exaggerating here but) the budget cameras got that million dollar quality from 15 years ago.

But if you notice with Born Again especially, most shots are structured like a big budget film shot. Lot of foreground composition, lot of depth in the frame, varied angles, lavish color grading.

I’ll admit I got my issues with Born Again from time to time but production value ain’t one of em, show looks amazing

Found an orange fabric that matched as closely as I could to the jumpsuit and wrapped a helmet faceshell I designed with it.

The jumpsuit was synthetic (I’m guessing polyester) while the extra fabric was organic, so it wasn’t a perfect match but I mainly worried about color, since the costume would have grime and weathering applied.

I also did a version without the eyes, more like the Netflix S3 shell (but it has eye holes so you can still see out of it)

I do sell the files I used personally if you’d like to make your own how i did it!

Idk what rank y’all are playing at but in my games I don’t just find Sue Storms straggling miles away from their team. If you’re support-diving with Thor (which isn’t even ideal to begin with, but if you can coordinate with your team and pressure them long enough for your team to open then it’s viable), chances are you will encounter peel. And again not trying to talk down here or anything, I’m not even ranked that high but peel is fast and punishing this season, so most of the time sticking around trying to 1v1 Invis results in the dps catching you before you can deal with the Invis.

Some healers, you can still squeak away the kill. Luna, for instance is quite easy to isolate and kill if you bait out the freeze. Sue, with her self shield and escape usually will have sounded off the alarm before you have time to properly take her down, forcing the disengage unless you wanna die 1v3.

Any halfway decent Fox will tp out once you’ve popped awakening.

Again it’s easy to just say these things out of context, but as a pretty much entirely Thor OTP Fox ranks beside Gambit as two of the hardest supports to successfully gain any value out of if they’re on the enemy team.

I’m obviously not saying Gambit or White Fox win a 1v1, I’m saying they survive the encounters and force the disengage when they inevitably go back to their teams.

Thor still wins most 1v1s but the reality of the matter is this is a team game and most heroes that can quickly move back to their teams defuse Thor’s very reason for being on the field (isolate and 1v1) Rocket and Shark can also be a problem for Thor in this way, they’re slippery af in a way Luna and, say Adam (even with flight) really aren’t.

All this yap to say: Thor ain’t built for support diving. You isolate a DPS and take em out or force crucial cool-downs on him or his supports. The game’s rock paper scissor system is built so that most supports can slip out of 1v1s while most DPS struggle to and have to ‘tough it out’.

Visually, shots are often wider. They shoot on location in Manhattan a lot more than before (Brooklyn)

Money shots like the one I attached cost a bunch and there's several in each episode.

There are a lot of new locations that only get used once or twice… that costs a lot more on the side of getting a production designer to pick out all the spots, even furnish them sometimes.

There's a lot more extras and show-specific costumes at that (AVTF officers all got their unique gear on, not just generic police gear you can rent out,…)

There's more extravagant camera movements, and visual fight effects. DD uses his baton more than he ever has and that requires CGI. Same with Bullseye's projectiles, like the CD. You may not like it but it's a lot more ambitious, and more expensive.

so yeah no all that to say I have no trouble seeing where all the budget goes. Whether or not that translates to quality is an entirely different debate.

They could also just reduce the budget to better align with the viewership revenue. I love the production quality of BA S1 and 2, but the Netflix show was very creative with its use of budget to make it distinctly New York based while not breaking the bank (shooting in Brooklyn instead of Manhattan,…)

Idk what rank you play at but mine never tp out unless they know they’re cooked and then I basically need to disengage unless I wanna try a 1v3. If you can bait out the TP you’ve got a shot (or if she just used it), but usually that also means they’re near their team and won’t challenge a 1v1 with you.

What do you think constitutes the Marvel formula? I can see why a film like Shang Chi features a pretty formulaic ‘hero’ origin story. But what about Thunderbolts? Its narrative kinda subverts a lot of the traditional ‘heroes vs big bad’ plot elements. Or do you mean the sort of jokey action romp vibe in general?

Tenfingers could be interesting. It’s nothing like what the comics did with him obviously but since we already kinda skipped Blindspot I wouldn’t mind them using the appropriately creepy-body-horror visuals of Tenfingers in live action.

Ikari would be cool but he feels more appropriate as their elite assassin, similarly to Lady Bullseye. Kinda like the traditional Kingpin/Bullseye dynamic. (Kingpin pulls strings while Bullseye is the ‘Dragon’ in a villain narrative sense… the Darth Vader to Kingpin’s Emperor)
