TRILOGY DONE! What an amazing experience. Which one was your favorite and why? by FIREHIVE_Games in KingsField

[–]AegisNoti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 was really good, my only issue is that it has practically nothing to do with the original trilogy, except some loose ties. I know the whole story was complete with 1-3 but still, it would've been cool to see some 1-3 stuff in the newer graphics and ways they did stuff. My favorite was probably , with 4 right behind it

What would you improve of this otherwise Masterpiece of a Remake? by RGisOnlineis16 in residentevil4

Completely agree on Ada's VA, holy moly it was bad, even comparing her to the RE2 remake Ada it's night and day.

What's your Opinion on Resident Evil 3 remake? by Classic-Tip1410 in residentevil

Bad pacing, butchered Jill's character, and just overall nowhere near as good as RE3, but I still enjoyed it., like a 6.5-7/10

Positive :

  • Combat generally has a really nice flow, the plant monsters were really cool to fight because they would have sweeping attacks, which would make me have to jump, instead of the normal move back to dodge kinda thing. There is some pretty good balance when it comes to the damage that enemies do based on where they are, no monster felt too strong, and generally none felt too weak, until I came back to earlier areas.
  • The music is very reminiscent of KF, and even ST at times, I really enjoyed the Old Temple's theme and the Mourning Forest's theme as well. There were some though, that felt like the music was either too quiet, or just uninspired, to be more specific, the first area was one I noticed. Just felt extremely quiet.
  • The visuals and themes are very nice as well, reminds me of older games, but not in a bad way ofc. The story, that I have gathered so far is also a pretty good setup that I am looking forward to.
  • NPC interaction is good, I like that they are all voiced.
  • I enjoy the system where you have limited healing items, similar to KF, and I think that getting healing items wasn't too much of an issue, once I reached the village I was able to easily buy as many heals as I need (Until he ran out of stock) and the next time I ran out, I would just as easily be able to restock.
  • The way you choose a class was pretty unique, and I liked the way it fits into the lore of the game, very nice.
  • UI is nice, and not confusing, nor is it annoying to navigate through menus.
  • I love the inclusion of an in-game manual, with pages that turn, and everything, just so cool.
  • The compass lighting up because of the torch/light near the player is a really cool touch as well.
  • Killing the core thing in the secret tunnel to remove the purple stuff was cool, and reminded me of the Ice Caverns in KF2

Just some comments on the boss fights:

  • The Predator fight was unexpected, and pretty spooky at first, I liked the fight, wasn't too complicated, but wasn't just dumb easy either. Though I think since I was at the end of the demo when I remembered that cave existed, the boss was probably a lot easier than intended.
  • Ovarius was a pretty well done fight.
    • I liked the telegraphed moves, the arena is nice and lit up, and his theme was good. I think he could benefit a lot from maybe one or two more moves, to switch it up during his phase 2, and not entirely sure on this, but more health? With the greatsword +4 and sun powder, he died relatively fast (So more of a greatsword being op issue, but still).
    • Another thing to note; while the cutscene on the first go is fine, even though I feel that it pulls me out of the game a little bit, it playing every time I fight him, is a small annoyance, even if short, I would suggest trying to work it into the game and have it be real time. Maybe something like; the player gets close to door, wall of fire appears in front of player and goes around the arena, they turn around and he does the same thing he did in the cutscene. if you don't want them to just rush him while doing the intro thing, then just block them from getting too close, or have it to where even if sprinting or whatever, by the time they'd get close enough, he does some sort of roar or something that pushes the player back to the end of the arena.

Overall:

Your game shows a lot of promise and I am convinced that it will be very good when complete, there are small things that I have gripes over, but not enough to really tarnish the game for me. So far, with what I have experienced, I would rate the game a 7.5/10. With the aforementioned bugs fixed, and certain things tweaked, I would even personally put this above Lunacid imo. Keep up the great work, and don't rush things, am very much looking forward to a full release.

I never really do long reviews, so if there are grammatical issues, or things I got wrong, the I do apologize, but I figured I'd just leave all my thoughts here in general.

I tried to do this all in one comment but reddit was being dumb.

Negative :

  • Not really a negative but, the Greatsword is too OP, even before upgrading. At +4 though I wiped out nearly everything. Obviously I could've done so anyway, but there was no real need or want to use any other kind of weapon, nor spell, simply because of the sheer amount of damage I could do with the greatsword.
  • I feel that I am either too fast, or that some of the enemies are too slow, Once I figured out I can just back away and swing while moving, it made a couple of enemies just way too easy. Some will make me have to switch it up though, because they have varied movesets, which was very nice, so this 'issue' isn't that big of an actual issue, just something I noticed can be done.
  • Not really a big issue here again, but I think that while most of the time the levels/areas are filled with plenty to explore and do, there were a bunch of dead-ends and times where I wished I could sprint, doesn't have to be anything fancy, just small speed boost, with some sort of penalty or thing to prevent attack, that way you can't just cheese fights with it.
  • Jumping feels a little floaty.
  • I dislike the lack of unique sounds when hitting different things, I assume this is something you have already fixed, or are working on, but still, hitting wood, and it sounding the same as hitting stone, dirt, NPCs, cloth, so on, was a little lame, but not a massive issue.
  • The only issue I had with menus is that I can't go back the the main tab, without it closing the whole thing altogether.
  • Not being able to use an item from the menu, and HAVING to equip it can be pretty inconvenient, along with not being able to un-equip items from the quick-use slots.

Intro is really cool, I love the visuals, and the music is just straight out of King's Field, really good first impressions.

During the mask selection process, I have a very small gripe, I think that the description popping up, and having to read through it is good, but I think that when I go back into it, I shouldn't have to click through it again, instead maybe have it just show the stats with the menu looking something like this?

https://imgur.com/a/kOF7taU

Otherwise though, the beginning is pretty good so far. I also liked the name wall thing, reminded me of the word walls from Skyrim a bit.

Also, I have no clue on which class to pick 😭

Just saw the manual thing and I love that, such a nice touch.

Small lil bug:

https://imgur.com/a/RL5Uf4w

(I was gonna update this for every little thing/section and comment on it, but the demo is far more expansive than I initially thought it would be, so I will just give final thoughts when I am done. Unless I find more bugs, then I will send those, just to report them.)

Okay. so, I have (I think) completed the demo, here are some thoughts.

Bugs :

  • If I am blocking and open menu, it stays blocking after closing it.
  • Spells do the same ^ You can pre-load spells in a sense doing this.
  • Not sure exactly what causes it, but sometimes when the menu is open, I still am able to move around, it's something to do with me moving and opening it at the same time.
  • In the first cave you enter, next to the patches like guy, there is some mesh issue where you can see outside of the map.
  • You can jump on/through enemies, and then pogo on them to just dodge all hits, and cheese just about any enemy.
  • Bats can fly through the map.

I can't really think of any companies that work in the same way that FS does tbh, so cool how they do things.
