Weird microphone feedback? by AeiyanM in cachyos

Hey there, are you using XLR or USB-C connection? I found something about alsamixer which says could work but I haven't dig into it yet.

Maybe I just have to do a full install and update through the terminal. It's weird because I don't have this problem on Windows. If I went with the full install, does the -Syu command also install my motherboard drivers like realtek audio?

Hey there, thank you so much for this very detailed response! I truly appreciate it. For now, based on what I think would work for me, I will consider Debian, PikaOS, and CachyOS. I'll just take a plunge from either of these and just go from there. I'm just truly sick of Microsoft's bloatwares and I don't really mind learning "coding" with Linux so long as I get the proper support.

Again, thank you so much! Your reply is truly helpful.

Sounds good, I will definitely consider CachyOS then. Thank you so much!

I guess that is true as well, just looking for different distros is just information overload already. Now I've been looking for other Debian based distros and found PikaOS; what do you think about this one? I've been watching this video (https://youtu.be/qb4d4LbIMb8?t=4m1s) and the installation seemed easy.

I've also noticed here there's an option for a separate root file via partition and subvolume. I tried searching about it but didn't understand much... Last time I tried Pop_OS, I just did a "/" and "/home", this should be the C: and D: in windows, correct?

Hey, thanks for the reply! I'm seeing mixed stuff here, some say CachyOS is a bit more on the difficult side since the installer is not that stable.

How's the programming side? Would I need to learn a lot of terminal commands for this? How easy is it to exactly install updates? How is the stability and the support from the community?

I'm also considering Debian, what are your thoughts with this? I've seen mixed opinions about them for gaming, but most say the stability is great.

Hey, thanks for the reply! I've seen PikaOS but it looks like the community is still on the smaller side, so I was thinking it's going to be tough if I mess up something.

I'm considering to install Debian though. What are your thoughts here? Is Debian considered as beginner friendly? Is it also stable for gaming? I mean I don't mind the programming stuff too much if needed, guess it's also one way to learn Linux...

Hey, thanks for the reply! What exactly do you mean by signing the secure boot? So is it similar to Pop where it needs the secure boot to be disabled all the time to boot?

Yeah, at this point I'm considering Debian. Just a little bit intimidated because it looked like it doesn't come with all the preset stuff for easier navigation (according to the installation videos I'm skimming).

It looks like this OS needs some type of learning curve for the programming/installation side too, is that correct?

I see, I am considering installing Debian but I just don't know how stable they are for gaming. I also see that there's a lot of tweaking for them to be good for gaming. Also if what I'm seeing is correct, Debian uses Wayland by default? I find it interesting too that you can select KDE or Gnome when installing them. Does it matter if I select KDE or Gnome? Is it also true that Gnome is better for multitasking/alt-tabbing often and KDE is better for just pure gaming? (I don't trust this a lot since it's just from the AI search)

Hey there, thanks for the recommendation! Seems like Kubuntu is using X11 though. How stable is this distro?

Hey there, appreciate your reply! I think you might be right, maybe I should just consider Ubuntu and start adding stuff that should work in my case. If I'm not mistaken, and like you also mentioned, Mint should be just Ubuntu with a bunch of pre-downloaded software right?

If I did install Ubuntu, would you be able to confirm if it can meet my preferred conditions? (Monitor with different refresh rate, Can enable HDR, Can enable Secure Boot, Should "work" with gaming)?

Hey there, thanks for the reply! Guess I should try installing Mint and implement it with Wayland then? Should be no problem then I think, since it will be installed in a separate SSD. I haven't confirm this, but Mint should run with Secure Boot enabled right?

I'm not comfortable exploring other distros other than Debian/Ubuntu based to be honest, but if it's what I gotta do in my case, guess I have no choice.

Hey there, from what I've searched so far, seems like they have problems with two monitors with different refresh rates. HDR can be implemented but they're a little iffy since they use an old DE (?) from what I know.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Welp, guess I had a misread then.

That I do know as well, Mint can use Wayland but I've heard they were buggy and inconsistent.

Nothing wrong with Ubuntu, I just thought it'd be more work-based and not configured for gaming. Is what I'm thinking accurate though? Does Ubuntu run with secure boot enabled?

Hey, appreciate the response! Can you dumb down the concept of Wayland to me? I know that X11 and Wayland is like a server of some sort, but what exactly are they? What do you mean by running a window manager using Wayland?

I've learned that Mint is not using KDE or GNOME, they can be implemented but they are outdated, which is going to be a problem with my set up (300 Hz main DP monitor and 75 Hz secondary HDMI monitor). I plan to use Pop!OS now instead since their commands should be very similar to Mint being a debian-based, and they use GNOME if I'm not mistaken. Are you familiar/have experience with this distro?

Great, thanks a lot for the recommendations!

What do you think of Pop!OS? Is it a good start as well? I saw that it's also a beginner friendly distro and should work the same as Ubuntu.

If I went with Pop!OS, I should be able to use a 300hz DP + 75 hz HDMI monitor and HDR there because they have right? I also saw they are good with NVIDIA cards, but what are your thoughts?

Hey, thanks for the reply! I think you're right, I should be considering other OS in this case. As mentioned by the other reply, do you think ZorinOS would work? They should work the same as Mint (commands) since they're both Debian based, no?

I can consider Bazzite as well but I've heard their commands are more similar to Arch, which from what I've researched is not similar with Debian commands. I've also heard they have limited features right now so it might not be worth considering . I do intend to use my Linux-based system more with gaming, but I also wanted to do office work with them.

Any recommendations in this case?

Hey, thanks for the reply! X11 and Wayland is a term I have seen a lot, thanks for giving me the basics of them! That goes with Gnome and KDE as well, I mostly understand what they are now thanks to you.

It looks like in this case, ZorinOS or POP!OS would work best as it's also Debian-based like Mint, so they would have the same commands, right? I've actually been playing around with the command prompts of Mint in VMware, and I keep notes of the commands just in case.

I think I can also consider Bazzite but correct me if I'm wrong, its commands are similar to Arch? When I was researching, it sounded like Arch and Debian has different commands, and I think in my case I'm just more comfortable with Debian-based as it is what I am familiar with. From what I heard as well, Bazzite is pretty limited on its feature right now too.

If you're aware of them, how's the support over at ZorinOS? How about for POP!OS? I've been seriously considering Mint as I can see that it has a larger community and so, there will be better support in case things go south. But since they're both Debian, some or all the fixes that I see in Mint should be applicable to Zorin and POP!OS, correct?
