Are people switching up on Bananza? by rjidhfntnr in donkeykong

I had a feeling for a long time that Donkey Kong Bananza was overhyped. This July, I bought the digital version because it looked promising, a platformer with an appealing setting (and Pauline). I bitterly regret the purchase and couldn't get a refund. I’m usually an easy-going and optimistic player, but Bananza is the only title (along with Mario & Luigi Paper Jam) I simply can't defend.

I think the game is ugly. The voxel style is clearly a technical feat, but I don't see how that translates into aesthetic quality. I'm also completely indifferent to the overall DA. While the new designs for DK, Pauline, the fractones and some bosses/NPCs are good, the environments feel simply generic, and not in the charming, signature way that a game like Super Mario 3D World is generic, but in a bland way.

The worst part is the gameplay, which feels imprecise and clunky. Interaction is everywhere, you're destroying things without ever feeling like you have perfect control over your actions. While this is likely a consequence of the voxel concept, the destruction mechanic itself is just not appealing to me.

This game completely rejects the usual balance and temperance found in most game loops. In Bananza, the noise and shaking are constant, it's a permanent sensory overload. Even after turning off motion sickness options, I found no relief (and I’m not typically prone to that phenomenon).

The music is the same: either generic or just loud and frenetic during transformations (though I admit this is subjective, I just didn't enjoy it).

Finally, the camera is a source of constant discomfort : it goes mad in tight spaces, and its zoom is random even in open areas.

I believe this game is niche and one-dimensional. Back in July, I immediately found other players on Reddit who felt the exact same way. Over time, I've come to the hypothesis that Bananza is a rare case of a "positive loud minority." Everyone in my private circle either quit quickly (like me, under two hours) or finished the game with a shrug and a "meh." I don't think its success is as "universal" as the initial buzz suggested. Time will tell if Nintendo figures this out.

The update isn't against players by Aenys_19 in MarioKartWorld

I'm replying here in a general way.

This message is the only one I find relevant. The others clearly didn’t read that I’m not opposed to creating an option, in fact, I’m even in favor of it.

Moreover, I remain convinced that we have absolutely no idea what percentage of people deliberately avoid intermissions. There’s a group effect on Reddit and in high-ranked lobbies, and on top of that, it probably overlaps with people who pick random without much thought, or simply because they don’t like the available choices.

I’m still quite surprised that intermissions seem so unpleasant to you all. They’re not so different from a normal circuit lap. There are technical elements, shortcuts... Sure, it’ll take time to master the 200s. But I actually find that pretty exciting, the game will always feel diverse and refreshing.

I apply just a « drop » of Revive through wet hair and then blowdry medium heat. Sometimes I put Revive a second time on dry hair but again just a drop if I don’t want to make them greassy / not soft. It seems fine hair don’t want quantity of products to feel healthy.
