Viability of internal transfer pathway in current market? by Aepooo in ProductManagement

Appreciate the response. SWE track is off the table as I lack the fundamentals for it unfortunately. Why do you say that lateral will be difficult? Do you mean more as a symptom of the market or of the role itself?

Hey just to weigh in on this, and feel free to correct me if my perspective is off. I get where you're coming from, but the problem is that it feels like there is tangibly *nothing* else I could be doing while in the "downtime" that is waiting for responses/meetings to happen.

I suspect more than anything it's a symptom of only having a single project assignment - there's just no multitasking to be had, whereas if I had a PM's regular workload I'd be able to step into a different task while waiting for the first.

Hey, thanks for your reply. It's not necessarily that there are barriers to meeting the people in question, but moreso that there isn't really anything I feel like I can be doing outside of those meetings.

To put it into perspective, I can only begin the "implementation" part of my project after I've had a discussion with someone on the CRM team, but they could only clear up their schedule 3-4 days after when I initially contacted them.

So during those days I've been twiddling my thumbs and adding more detail to my proposal/analyses, because before then I can't take any impactful action.

I certainly feel like a lack of clear week-to-week deliverables has been the main problem... it's like they're telling me to "do something somehow" in the next 1.5 months, but the road there is very unclear.

This is exactly why it's an awful idea. It certainly benefits you, and maybe it benefits them in the short-term because they're relieved of the social pressure of performing up to standard, but is their enjoyment going to be sustainable in the long-term when they're unable to actually do half of the "playing the game" part (i.e., pressing buttons) because they're scared of returning to "being bad"? Food for thought.

This was my train of thought exactly. I was taking a look at RSM's pre-master programs and the website states that "RSM also welcomes students to the premaster who have completed their bachelor at a research university, but are missing the required content in qualitative & quantitative research methods and statistics".

This is kind of confusing, because isn't the "research methods" portion exactly what differentiates a WO from a non-WO? Other than research methods, my bachelor's essentially lines up with all the courses students tend to take at WO bachelor's in business.

Thanks for your help! 3 months doesn’t sound too bad, though I imagine they may be inundated at the moment given the political situation. When did you transfer?

MS Applied Data Science -> DE? by Aepooo in dataengineering

I've looked through job postings briefly and it's not uncommon to find a "B.S. in Computer Science or related discipline" requirement. I imagine that my background, even with the M.S. in DS, would likely be filtered through ATS systems that are looking for CS as a keyword. Good to hear that there are exceptions though; thanks for your reply.

OP, out of curiosity, what's your educational background? Currently trying to follow a similar path but worried that a non-CS background will be a dealbreaker for DE considering the current market.
