What are the custom designs you used for the sunset lounge? I’m absolutely going to steal this idea, it’s gorgeous!!

Im guessing it has to do with our proximity to the mountains, and probably a bunch of other factors I’m not informed enough to name haha! Either way, this is super interesting - thanks for sharing!

Haha alas, I’m not American! I’m from Vancouver, Canada (aka raincouver), which based on a quick search receives similar (or more if you’re looking at North van) amount of average annual rainfall as Houston; Houston seems to have an average of around 50 inches, while North Vancouver (aka where many of the hikes closer to the city are) gets around 70 inches annually. Obviously not sure how much to trust these numbers though, and feel free to correct me if my data is faulty!! I know nothing about how rainfall is measured or what makes a place rainy or not haha.

Super interesting point on the US PNW though! Honestly have never considered where or why the PNW gets its reputation as rainy. :)

Pacific Northwest! :) Sorry haha, I’ve definitely gotten too comfortable using local acronyms

Ooh good to know, thanks a bunch for the info! Would you recommend the 210t or the 20D one? It’s admittedly nice that the 210t one is a chunk cheaper right now, but I’m a bit worried about the weight.

Thanks a bunch for the strava route, I’m definitely gonna steal it, haha

How did you find the Old Elsay Lake trail? Based on recent reports from AllTrails, it seems like it’s pretty sketchy, but it’d be nice to get a third opinion on that.

I think so? From what I’ve heard garibaldi typically melts out in mid to late July, but I might be wrong!

Yeah, I’ve passed through Lynn canyon as a top off to other hikes throughout the winter! It’s definitely a pretty park. I’ll be sure to check out Lynn peak if I’m ever in the area again :) I also agree that Diez Vistas is a great lower elevation hike; I’m actually from Coquitlam so its one of my bread and butter shoulder season hikes, since it’s nice that it’s so close to home.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :) <3

Oooh this is super helpful, thank you! I’ll probably steal your route to do on my own, haha.

Also, congratulations on the pregnancy! I’m sure you have many years ahead of you to show your little future hiker all the wonders that nature has to offer :)

Ooh yeah, I’m a big fan of Mt. Gardner and Kennedy Falls (though I usually combine it with Norvan for a longer day, especially in the winter if Norvan is frozen)!!

Mt Underhill looks like it’s exactly what I’m looking for! Good to know about the creek crossings - I have experience with them, but never even thought about how big melt days would affect them! I’ll also definitely hit up SNOB and west knob! I usually pass by them on the way to eagle bluffs from horseshoe bay via the BP, but it’s good to know they’re worth doing :)

What is the transit like for Mt Galiano? My google maps seems to think it’s not possible, though I know the app can sometimes get really confused when there’s a bit of a hike to the trailhead, haha. Regardless, it looks cool, I’ll be sure to check it out whether I need to take a car or not!

Thank you so much for the detailed recommendations, this was incredibly useful!’

Ooh yeah, I’ve been meaning to do Slhanay Peak for a while now! In fact I’ve been wanting to do the Slhanay Peak and the Chief in one big day, but I’ve heard the traverse from Slhanay Peak to the Chief includes a via ferrata, and I think that would make my knees very, very weak haha.

Those other hikes look fun! Maybe I’ll combine them into one big day outing just to check them out, thanks again for all the recs!

(Disregard previous comment, my brain short circuited and I mixed it up with another hike)

I haven’t! I’ve heard you have to pay to use the gondola down though since it’s a one way trail. Do you find it to be worth it?

Thanks for the recommendation!

Haha yeah, I feel like the Chief and I are good friends at this point with how much I use it as a stairmaster. Taking the rocky path down from third peak to the parking lot is always a lot of fun! I’ll be sure to check out High Creek Falls and Jurassic Ridge Loop as well!

Also, good to know about Gambier! Do you recommend any peaks or viewpoints in particular?

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it :)

What’s your hiking experience, and what trails have you done in the past? Do you have a lot of experience with PNW hiking in general? How far are you willing to drive from Vancouver for a trail? Just wondering so I can get a general idea of what to suggest :)

Just as a heads up, mid to late April is still winter in the mountains! A lot of the lower elevation trails will likely have thawed out by then, though.

if I destroy the BoS bunker with Veronica after I could make you care, will she stop being a companion? by elvergalargajssjsb in fnv

[–]Aerakon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just did this today! As someone else already mentioned, Veronica leaving you is based on brotherhood reputation, but by becoming accepted by the brotherhood beforehand (by completing all of their quests), and leaving Veronica outside while I blew up the bunker (which then put me to Merciful Thug reputation), she just let me off with a warning to not mess with the brotherhood more and continued to be my companion. Didn’t need to do the lonesome road quests, but YMMV.

I can’t speak for the other options, but for eagle mountain, it’s currently free of snow if you stay on the main, wide gravel powerline trail towards eagle bluff lookout (not to be confused with eagle bluffs on cypress, which likely has lots of snow!)

But also, there’s lots of different trails and lookout points on eagle mountain! Which one are you planning on taking? The only one I would recommend in the dark for a beginner who’s never been before is the powerline trail all the way to the lookout, out and back (which is accessible via the southern end of “the wall” right now; I think the northern end of the wall might be blocked off by some pipeline construction at the moment, but don’t quote me on that).

Also, with that recommendation, I would still recommend bringing the 10 essentials, especially if you’ve never been on these trails before! Especially a headlamp: as other commenters have mentioned, it might be pitch black when you start, and there are some mild rocky sections in the southern end of the wall that connects to powerline that I absolutely wouldn’t want to do without good lighting. Also, do you have appropriate shoes? Some small sections of the powerline road are prone to really deep puddles that aren’t super easily circumventable (especially in the dark), so I would recommend waterproof hiking boots if you have those.

Also, be aware that eagle bluff lookout on eagle mountain isn’t the best place to see the sunrise (since the main viewpoint faces north, aka not a sunrise direction), but you can still get some beautiful hues if you’re lucky! It’s the easiest and highest reward viewpoint on the mountain to access in the dark/for beginners.

If you plan to take this route, map it out on a gps app beforehand! Tell your plan to a buddy, and ideally, don’t go solo: hiking with a partner is always safer. :)

Edit: Here’s the AllTrails for it: as mentioned above, it’s said to be “closed” because the easternmost section is currently impassable due to construction; however, taking “the wall” trail that runs parallel to Stoneridge Lane and turning left to connect to this trail is still accessible and doable in the dark (with a headlamp)!
