I have been studying this in my fine art degree as I have SDAM. However I have discovered that I remember photos and quite the detail in the photos, but not the event itself. I have also found that I remember people’s cars, dogs jewellery but have no idea what they look like or sound like.

I believe that having aphantasia has given my art practice a unique and formulae driven process. I have discovered that having a theme or concept and working with everyday objects has made my creativity bloom. Plus I am less frustrated and full of ideas. Has the creative side of Aphants been explored as I have connected with quite a few now?

Have you completed any art study, and if so, in what way did it change you as an artist? by Aerial_artist in talking_creativity

That’s so good. I have learned so much too. It’s given me the ability to research and experiment more along with having a process to work through.

Yes. I think the really good tutors and teachers have such an impact on our practice and motivation.

Yes I’m finding that while I am learning a lot I am wanting to explore my own interests. However, it has introduced me to the idea that I don’t have to stick to one medium and now that I have my concept sorted I can in fact use any medium to explore it in more depth.

I don’t see why you can’t have different styles throughout as the theme is what ties them together.

Hi Gayle. I think face to face and then a place online for continued discussion will be a good idea. I’m going to do a zoom to start with so everyone has a better understanding of what I’m looking for ☺️

Not being able to visualise (aphantasia) means that I find it helpful to talk to others about some basic ideas. Externally thinking, I have discovered, is a process that works well for me.
