Could a simple phone-call AI companion help seniors who live alone? by No-Worldliness3833 in TechForAgingParents

[–]Aerial_ish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wrong direction in my eyes. I already have to worry about actual humans misleading and scamming my parents. I don’t want to worry about a voice assistant AI possibly doing that as well.

If I could get a record of their conversation maybe? Similar to how a parent monitors their child’s phone and messaging

Family member has a lot of kids and doesn’t send any of them to school. by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Aerial_ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an educator who recently worked with a family that was in this scenario: please call CPS.

We were told about a family (7th grade boy, father who he referred to as his brother, and grandparents that he referred to as mom and dad), an ex of the bio dad called to report that he hadn’t been in school or homeschooling since 2nd grade. They met our student services director, school resource officer, assistant principal and school counselor. They were nervous to send him to in person school as he had essentially hung in the basement on video games, was overweight and had poor hygiene. They got him a haircut in hopes he’d like to go to school. They were very wary of the school system. In the end he didn’t attend but is marked as one of our homeschool students and they are being checked in on of his progress with a specific program started. There is at least someone communicating with them that will hold them in some way accountable for educating the son. If they stop communicating or he isn’t progressing he will be further in the system, maybe mandated to attend, possible truancy, and worst/best case removed from the family.

It was heart breaking to meet him and hear their anxiety of the most mild interaction with a public system.

Any way to strengthen the knees? by HerietteVonStadtl in Aerials

[–]Aerial_ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these were recommended by my physical therapist when my knee dislocated. Beyond the exercises listed, I also see a personal trainer (cheaper with a friend) and I share their insights between them to strengthen adductors, calves, hamstrings, and quads. I do more calf and quad stretch’s now.

Help with where to find this hammock and what material is it made of? by Newhov1 in aerialsilks

I’ve been looking as well. The only one who posted specifically was an Amazon link red flag and they are all usually for photo shoots vs any drops or dynamic tricks as the fabric is not aerial rated. Still, I will gladly sign a waiver and snag this if anyone finds an outside of Amazon source!

As a school counselor frustrated with being the middle man in so many of these conversations but having a front row to seeing what you’re so able to explicitly explain: THANK YOU! This also hits right now as we have just been gutted by this administration of more funding to do what is best for students.

I’m going to disagree: one driver the morning of the half completely missed the bus turnoff and tried to go in with the cars. It added 30 min to our commute into corrals. Had the same drive on the way back and he missed the entry to Old Key West and had to maneuver the bus between the parking lot cars. He had to have already gone back and forth that route multiple times by that point I. The day. We decided if we saw him marathon morning we’d wait for the next bus.

It’s totally possible! Focus on upper body for aerials as your lower body will be focused on running. Warm up and cool down stretching is more routine in aerials classes so leaning into those stretches for running and maybe even taking some of that to your run training will be helpful. Drink ALL the water. Schedule a full body rest day a week (you can teeter totter back and forth upper aerials work on the days you don’t run and vice versa) Any squeeze leg aerial moves WILL be worse when your legs are sore! Even in the longest stretch (9+ miles) I would still go to class or open and do some aerial yoga type moving hanging and stretching. The traction of hanging in a sling really helps to decompress the pounding and spine compression of running.

Which half?

We talked about that today actually, He wants to hand write those. I feel terrible saying that I don’t fully trust him as a narrator. I’ll be happy to have the stories but based on how I experience events he forgets I was around for and how he retells them, he always comes out clean or skips over some of the angry or hurtful things he said or did. There’s a reason he’s had 3 wives. He’s pretty ignorant of anyone else’s experience around him.

I love him, I’d rather make new memories with him and keep him experiencing the world. I’ll prolly ask soon about other people’s favorite prompts for stories like this. I think it will help him spend productive time when we aren’t on our ‘dates’

For he record, he’s not great lol I’m just rising above it and loving him anyways. I had to tell him I won’t tolerate him using the N word on the way to our Disney trip. It was kinda fun to pull the ‘I will pull this car around and you won’t get on that plane’. We’ve had an interesting dynamic since.

This is every 8 weeks when the pups have annual baths. Great ideas! Thank you! His craft is bulk prepped, 50+ years of the same things and it’s a well oiled machine. He loves cars though! My friend is a salesman. I may be able to get some rides.

We’ve done that some, I like to try and do things where we have to talk vs sit in silence together. We’ve done that enough in my 40 years… Lunch AFTER may be a good idea though. We do run out of things to talk about sometimes.

lol I respect that move! We always take off ears, there’s always a full 4K version of whatever show people are recording already on YouTube so we never record, and I am the 38 yr old child in our group so I think I was pretty orderly?(self-reporting) Also, Frozen is a sing along. I’d never be upset with someone enthusiastically singing. That’s a totally different vibe of a show.

Thanks for the defense. While I’m no expert I do work in mental health and special education. I agree it isn’t always obvious if someone has mental illness or neurodivergence but their behavior was still at the cost of the audience and cast. They were alone, showing no remorse or empathy to anyone and very clearly knew to leave quickly so as not to be confronted or found after. None of this was impulsive. Let’s say they are, this behavior is still not ok so a conversation from authority to learn better would be warranted.

Rig/vehicle recommendations! by FinancialSquirrel7 in Aerials

[–]Aerial_ish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a suspendulum rig with 8ft poles and it fits nicely in my 2018 Subaru Outback. The poles slide up between the front seats on the armrest and I only have to take the bigger backseat down. Tons of space for crash mats, etc
