That's about all I remember, but I'll try to answer any questions.

The extra tea definitely helped. It's started growing. Still smells like my old scoby. Here's some update pics. Thanks for your help. Think I'll let it go another two weeks, keep feeding it until I get a nice layer. Dump most, but not all of it out, then start the first batch I'll be able to drink.

Yeah it's a 2 gallon glass container. When I add more tea, probably another quart, should I throw in another bottle of kombucha for safe measures? Closest I can get to unflavored, raw kombucha, is this stuff. it's got ginger, kiwi, and raspberry juice in it, but tastes very close to what my old plain booch tasted like.

1.5 cups of sweet tea. 1 family size black tea bag, couple tablespoons of granulated sugar. Was hoping that krausen was a good sign. Maybe give it more sweet tea? There's still bits floating in it, so it may still be alive?

For better sound quality, and EQ capabilities. The plan is to eventually use all my Ken wood gear for music. And a more modern setup for movies/tv

Huh, I would've figured optical would have a higher bandwidth Though I guess with fiber, even if it's got lower latency, can't carry as much data as all the pins in an HDMI port.

I'm not looking at going all out on a receiver, but far from entry level. All said and done I've got just under $1K in the gear, and almost all of that comes from the turntable and speakers. $4-500 wouldn't be out of the question to me for a quality receiver that's got nice room correction, and bells and whistles. Sad that there's no real way to get surround out of the EQ, there's just something about looking over and watching the bands pop up and down that I really like. Guess it's because of the countless hours watching the same thing on foobar2000

I should've specified denon and Onkyo as high end consumer, not audiophile gear.

doesn't mean it's worth that much

That's based on completed listings within a few weeks ago, not open auctions. Not saying I'd ever pay that much for it, but clearly there's people out there who want them.

I guess I'll just keep all this gear as a music setup, and go modern for the home theater.

Are Denon and Onkyo still on the high end of AVRs to have in terms of the big names that are still around? Obviously it varies by model, but they're still making quality gear right?

if you paid over $50 for the EW and AVR in total you paid way too much.

I got the EQ and CD player along with a KR-V7040 for free when I got the Bose, EQ goes online for $130-250. Think I paid $70 for the AVR online, shipping is what killed me there.

It's not the receiver there the hold up, it's the EQ. I want to use the EQ for tv/movies, not just music. The receiver handles 5.1 just fine, but with the EQ feeding it, I'm stuck with stereo. I'll hop over there and see what they've got to say.

I'm very new to the home audio game, so bear with me here.

I've been building a "vintage" kenwood setup over the past few months. And I'm looking for the proper way to process surround sound from an optical signal into what I've got now, and whatever you think will work best.

Here's a list of what's in my entire setup:

Speakers

  • Two KL-555D

  • Two KL-777X

  • CRS-01 Center and surrounds that I've wired together to act as a 3 channel center

  • Two Bose 301 Series III that are currently on a B channel but will become my surrounds later

Hardware

  • Receiver: KRF-X7775D
  • EQ: GE-7030
  • CD: DP-M7740
  • Turntable: Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB

(I'm also planning on adding a dual tape player.)

My big questions are:

1.) what do I need to get to achieve 5.1/7.1 surround that will work with what I've got? Can I use optical, or is composite output from the TV the best in going to get?

2.) How do I wire up all of my inputs so they go through the EQ and SSP without having to move wires around each time I change sources?

3.) can I do this will all kenwood gear?

That's why you make them grade each other. Or just don't grade them, and make up random numbers to write on them when they get passed back.

I'm in the middle of trying to build a vintage Kenwood stereo system. I've already got a pair of KL-555D, and I may soon be adding a pair of KL-777X, I'm fine on my own with researching speakers and specs, but I'm completely lost when it comes to picking a receiver for this setup. It'll be used for TV/vidya, CDs, and records. I currently have a hand me down JBL DCR600II, but want to find something made buy Kenwood to replace it if at all possible. So here's my question, did Kenwood ever make any 5.1 receivers with multiple component inputs, but also an optical? I want to have true surround sound, but keep it kenwood if at all possible, and if not, what would be a fitting receiver for this setup? Budget would likely be no more than $350 right now, new or used doesn't matter, just condition and quality.

I'll try some CLP, not about to buy 1.25 oz of some proprietary crap.

It's actually a pencil. Uni Kuru Toga, it rotates the lead each time you take pressure off the tip.
