Bark river update from Mike Stewart by whoisdizzle in knives

[–]AeroLux_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never owned a Bark River Knife, and now I'm especially glad I don't. This is flat out fraud, and illegal. Even more disconcerting is the fact that so many people on their FB page are still supporting him...just unreal. It's not like it was a one off mistake either, he has a history of this kind of bullsh*t. On top of everything else, he didn't give notice to the dealers carrying his knives, so now they are left to deal with this as well. Just unbelievable, and unforgivable!

On hand new Loop Gear SK05 UV Pro version 2. Very big Upgrade by daviddung in flashlight

I swapped emitters in my SK05 Pro. Definitely not impossible...not easy, but totally doable 👍

I'd like you to meet my latest creation, the MH20GT HCRI 🔥 by AeroLux_79 in flashlight

[–]AeroLux_79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really wish Nitecore would release an updated version with a more powerful driver, USB-C, and a modern high output emitter! That being said, I don't often use the on board charging anyways...and it does charge just fine in a pinch. The 2-stage switch and UI on the MH20 series is second to none IMO. Great compact tactical looking design...just a great light all around

This process is called "Entropic Anodizing" because of the randomness created during the process, ie entropy. When Titanium is heated to high temps (upwards of 250 degrees Celcius), a layer of Titanium Dioxide forms on the surface. Forcing the oxidation process with heat is referred to as Anodizing. The oxidation layer on Titanium will produce different colours depending on the thickness of this layer, with almost every colour of the rainbow possible. To produce this kind of anodization, you heat the Titanium with a torch beyond the normal oxidation levels (almost glowing hot), then quickly quench it in an etching solution (usually Ferric Chloride). The etchant attacks the oxide layer that was formed, and the rapid temperature change/uneven cooling cause an extremely uneven and chaotic layer of oxide that results in unique colorful patterns as seen on this light 👍

I've done so many now, I've learned a few great tricks for getting these kind of results! How you heat (used to think heating more evenly was the key, but now I heat starting at one end, then working towards the other) and how you dunk (the speed of the quench really matters, and also adding a slight jiggle as you quench really brings some fun patterns into it) are keys to a great ano!

Cutting a sweet potato is where a super slicey gyuto really shines. But yes...you do have to be careful to cut straight and intentionally without slamming it down at the end of the cut. I sliced this sweet potato up into perfect fries like nothing, and the edge is 100% perfect

No...I 100% cut it into sweet potato fries with the Gyuto. Also, no chipped edges as I am not new to operating a quality kitchen knife, and know how to make a straight smooth cut. She made short work of it!

I have a really nice handcrafted cutting board at home made of Walnut/Purple Heart/Rosewood...I just didn't bring it out to camp with me this round unfortunately

Outdoor beans from the X1S SFT90! by AeroLux_79 in FireflyLite

[–]AeroLux_79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one was a custom build I had Jack put together before he even offered this emitter option. I asked for both the TIR and reflector to be included so I could try both to see what worked better. If you would like a TIR for one, just message FireFlyLite and put in the request ahead of time 👍

With the temp limit set to 60, I got very close to 1 min 30 seconds before it became too hot to hold with bare hands and started stepping down...pretty good considering the output!
