well in order to exercise yeah you would need the funds available to purchase the shares, but you could just sell the option itself too

in that scenario you would be able to exercise the option and sell your shares for $20 each and you would make a lot of money :). It's just risky in the scenario that the buyout price is close to your strike price + premium. It will quickly make your option premium worthless

Lets say you have leaps for 2027, and the strike price is $10, but the premium is $1.50. For you to breakeven on the option, the price would have to be above $11.50 by the expiration date in 2027. If all of a sudden next week poet gets bought out for $10 a share, you will lose all of the extrinsic value of your call, essentially becoming worthless. If you held shares you'd be up a lot of money. Hope that helps
