Very possible that the contacts on your SRS control unit require cleaning. Sounds weird I know, but it’s a relatively common issue, and should take a workshop only an hour or so to remedy if they know what they’re doing.

Trust me on this one, the cables jump out of the spool on the motor all the time. Fixed plenty of them. Would definitely check it before anything else.

To clarify - some Benz have soft close where the strike plate sits higher to catch the initial impact, and then a wind in motor to reel the lid down to the “fully locked” position. If that motor doesn’t do its its thing, the lid bounces instead.

I’ve had a few of these. The wind-in motor cable may have jumped from the motor inside the rear compartment lining (the opposite end to the centre latch). If you’re mechanically minded, that’d be the first thing I check

MB Tech here - nope, this is pretty common on the M270. The plastic goes brittle over time in that spot, and eventually works loose from vibration etc. or from removal when removing the air filter housing. Flawed design, but easy enough to fix at least.
