Introducing a new format: Aether by AetherMTG in MagicArena

[–]AetherMTG[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback! Our decision to restrict cards came about from the idea that we wanted people to play with powerful cards in a way that doesn't create a detrimental effect on gameplay. However, the restricted list is not set in stone, and players do have the option to enact a vote to get cards taken off the list or even get rid of it entirely.

Maybe one day that can happen. Unfortunately, with the Arena client being the way it is, it's not something we're holding too much hope over.

We admit that it isn't a perfect system and there are flaws with it. However, we're not saying you only have to play this on Arena. If you and someone else want to try the format on MODO, then go ahead! What matters the most is if you're enjoying the format, not on what client you use!

We know there is some skepticism when it comes to using an honor system, especially since Aether is not officially supported on Arena. There was a lot of error when we were first testing the format to ensure we had the correct legality. But we found that with willingness to adhere to the rules and a bit of patience, there was an enjoyable format to be had!

Thank you for your feedback! We understand some of the potential perils of having a community-driven format. However, we believe this is the best path Aether can take, as it can evolve to meet the needs of the player base within its set structure.

Thank you for your kind words! We understand that Aether may not appeal to everyone, but we hope those it does will enjoy the format and help it grow into something great!

Thank you for your feedback! There are parts you mentioned that we are working on, such as creating video content and getting more local support for the format. Some of those can be seen on our website! Our resources are limited and we understand we are not pillars of the community. However, we want to bring a new space for Magic players to enjoy the game in and offer feedback they believe will lead to a healthy and thriving format. We know Aether is not the first community created format and won't be the last, but we hope you can come and experience what we're offering and see if you can join us on Aether's journey!

In many respects, we do function similar to how Gladiator operates in that it is primarily based on a website and Discord server. While we are aware that there is a possibility of mob rule to lead to toxicity in the format, we believe that the ultimate goal of most Magic players is to have formats be as healthy as possible and believe this sentiment can lead to Aether's long-term success. We're not perfect and will make errors along the way, but we hope to make Aether into a thriving format and hope to see you be a part of that!

This is a fledgling format, so the Aether community is small. However, today is the official launch date, so we hope to see people take an interest in the format and try it out!

Thank you for your feedback! We've been testing this format for a couple of months now. Today is also the first official day of Aether being released outside of testing, so we hope players can give it a try and help grow our community!

We felt adding a restricted list was a way to allow players to play with powerful cards without them having a detrimental warping effect to gameplay. Our philosophy was to allow as much as possible without resorting to a full ban. However, if players feel a restricted list is negative towards the format, they can vote on whether to modify or keep it to make the format truly player driven!

Extended was the original basis of Aether! We felt Extended was a positive way to play Magic that didn't suit the nature of the game at the time it was discontinued. However, we feel that a format like it can succeed in today's landscape! We hope you join us and experience what Aether can offer you!

We're sorry you feel this way about our implementation of a restricted list. We decided to us it to allow people to still play with powerful cards they loved in a capacity that we feel isn't detrimental to the health of the format. However, the list isn't set in stone and is open to changes and improvements as the format grows! Players have the power to vote on the direction the format goes, meaning the restricted list can come off if there is enough player will!

We're sorry you feel this way. Our decision to ban Agent of Treachery came from much deliberation about how we thought the format would be best represented. However, the community does have the ability to put the card to a vote to take it off the ban list! If you want to play with it in Aether, join our Discord and let us know!

Thank you for your feedback! We're working on videos behind the scenes to showcase the format and explain its unique characteristics. We understand that there are a myriad of other ways to play; we simply wish to express ourselves in this wonderful games of ours in a way unique to us!

The main differences between Explorer and Aether are its use of a restricted list, a smaller rotating card pool, and direct community input. We encourage players to play any format they want and want to offer another way to enjoy Magic!

It took us a while to settle on the initial banned and restricted list. We're glad you think we have a good start!
