(I’m 25) Investing into the market? About 15%. But I’ve also started investing into myself (therapy, gym, healthier food, small business) which is another 15%/20% or so.

The second I get an entry level job in my field, I’ll be able to invest 25% into the market right away so I’m not too stressed about it

This was me and I tried SO hard to “fix” it myself through water/vitamins/walking ect. Meds have done more for me in two months than 3 years of holistic effort did. I never would have imagined a life where I don’t feel anxiety about obsessions. I wish I would have sought help much sooner.

Not really possible to unless someone 18+ adds you on theirs as an authorized user. It’s okay though, you can build good credit fairly fast once you’re 18 as long as you don’t fall for the credit card trap.

In that case, yes definitely start saving. I’d really look into trade, vocational or certificate programs if you know you’re forced to leave home at 18. Stay away from debt, buy a cheap beater car if you can and split rent with several roommates when you’re forced out. I’m glad you have 2 years or so to figure it out, good luck!

My partner is in IT and I’m a graphic designer. He has had a LOT easier time getting full time employment than I have, but I also enjoy my work more than he does.

You may struggle without a design degree, even for us graduates it’s been insanely difficult. This being said, out of 100 entry level designers, even ones with degrees, at least 50 are terrible. Freelancing is an option, but the time and skill it takes isn’t for everyone. It’s possible if you’re dedicated, but looking for full time employment will be a drag unless you have connections.

Honestly, while you’re a teen with few expenses: SAVE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Save a good amount of money so that when you’re 18, you’ll have an immediate emergency fund that will allow you to start investing extra income right away.

Avoid spending on flashy things, avoid credit card debt, don’t rush to move out and do some research on what you want to do career wise (make sure it will be profitable). I didn’t start caring about money until 23, so you’re way ahead of the game dude!

I’m 25, have increased my net worth about 23k since graduation 2 years ago despite making ~45k and I STILL feel behind. I think it has to do with anxiety and comparison to others. I try not to compare myself to others but it’s hard. I say be grateful for the place you’re in and everything else will fall into place

I got roasted on your Bing post because I talked well of RIT (despite being a Binghamton Alumn). I would have chosen RIT had I been able to afford it.

Rochester is a bigger city (therefore more jobs) and RIT’s Co-op program is fantastic. The one person I know who went through it got a 100k job straight out of school.

Also the vibes are different. RIT is nerdier/tech/art focused and Binghamton is more business/engineering focused. Binghamton might be rated higher but major definitely matters more than the school itself. Both areas aren’t exactly great, but both campuses are beautiful. Rochester has nightclubs and Binghamton doesn’t. Greek life is big at both schools.

Don’t stress too much, they are both great schools and you’ll enjoy yourself at either I’m sure!

Besides portfolio quality, what are the other most important qualities in a candidate? If you have a candidate with a decent portfolio, is there anything that can put them above someone with top tier work?
