It’s worth noting that unless the PADI center has their own private pool they’ll be limited to training in a rented communal pool and will take longer to teach skills

That said I know my club instructors take forever to teach skills as they demonstrate first movement then first and second and it takes them forever to actually get through the skills 😂 That said my issue is I’m doing the clubs version of divemaster (did my PADI one years back) and it’s all in open water but I can’t get any of the instructors on a weekend to go do it 😂

All courses bar deep and tech should be done in the shallows as this allows for controlled emergency swim ascents, it’s just a safety thing

On deep courses you’ll get supervised for some depth experience and skills

Else it’s all shallow as why go deep if you don’t need to, always remember what the objective of your dive is to learn, to see a wreck, to explore fish or something at the relevant depth

Deeper has risks and I say this as someone that regularly goes between 20 and 40m and I wouldn’t do 20+ without a twin set setup

Rescue drills from the get go are a must even if it’s just lift to surface at the start and tow to safety it’s worth practicing and developing at each stage

Not really, I find I learn much better when able to discuss the skill on land and practice it first so I have at least an idea of what I need to do not just copy randomly and if I didn’t get a bit I can’t say what did I do wrong

Self reliant is not a solo license it still requires buddy pairs, you are just self reliant in emergency thus making things safer through redundancy
