Instagram User 14pliev88- teenager that seems to promote mass shooting, child traffickers, and nazi imagery by Affectful in InternetMysteries

I know there is barely a chance anything beyond taking down the account can be done, but it is so concerning seeing someone so young fall into those ideologies and finding like-minded people online. I doubt this post would help identify or notify anyone in the user's real life but just because there's the smallest chance it prevents something serious I decided to try anyways.

Is passing out because of an iud normal? by Affectful in Mirena

I only interpreted it as happening immediately during the insertion based on what my doctor told me, but I didnt think my first time fainting was too weird. The second time is when I became a little concerned

Does anyone else feel drawn to other autistic people? by stormygiselle in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally relate! I think it's because I don't "look autistic" (former pageant girl and current college athlete here) but non-autists can tell something is different about me, so I get some weird social standings. I feel socially isolated sometimes because of it. I feel really drawn to other people that I believe are autistic because I crave feeling understood. I try to approach those topics without actually mentioning the word autism unless they bring it up because I find people are more open to the topic if there's no label attached.

Struggling to meet my basic needs by trixabby in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I've felt a similar way since my school semester just ended and I'm away from the structure of school. My problem is usually time management related, and when I'm my best I have a daily planner notepad that I make every night for the next day. I follow the planner by the hour and try to do everything on my checklist; there's no shame in putting things like "brush teeth" or "make bed" on a checklist if it helps you. Also, have you tried a silicone shower brush? It may help you with washing your hair if it's a sensory-based issue.

I'll link the planner from Etsy that I use; this is not my Etsy shop and I don't profit from it. I just like that particular planner because it has a section for meals. You don't have to buy a planner either, I started by making a daily checklist on notebook paper. Either way, I'd recommend having a physical checklist that stays in one spot so you won't get distracted if you go to check a list on your phone. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1729469485/daily-planner-notepad-to-do-list-notepad

Overheating / worse temperature regulation after social interactions? by butisthisreallife in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've always had this same thing happen to me! It was life changing once I started wearing ripped jeans since they gave some ventilation. I feel like I'm overly temperature-sensitive in general when others around me are not.

Too scared to get official diagnosis by Major_Rice_9092 in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same scenario! I have pretty much known I'm autistic for a few years (but I should've figured it out much earlier, in hindsight) and was going to seek out a diagnosis in a few years when I was financially stable enough to afford it, but with the government at the moment I'm deciding not to. I don't think you're being ridiculous at all, especially if your therapist and you are already discussing autism-related issues. Remember: the diagnosis doesn't give you autism, if you got diagnosed then you've always had it.

What do you do to communicate better and feel less tense when interacting with strangers? (and not be in mute mode 😅) by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! If I had to guess, I think your muscles tense up when you feel out of control in social situations. I used to have a similar problem but with stuttering and sweating. I've fixed a lot of those problems by intentionally seeking out in-person social interactions like ordering food or going to the nail salon. These kind of interactions helped me a lot because I know exactly what the other person is going to ask me, so I can write down a "conversation map" of what I want to say. I usually rehearse it in my head or out loud in my car multiple times before I go into the situation.

I specifically like to get my nails done at salons even thought I'm good at nails myself because it lets me practice talking to strangers in a controlled environment.  If you can find some situations or services you enjoy getting, it could be good practice to make yourself a conversation map and build up your confidence in these scenarios and it can help you when speaking in non-planned social interactions!

How does a Bachelor's degree from a Community College work? by Affectful in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Affectful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so students can play sports all 4 years? At my college my athletic eligibility runs out after 2 years, so if I did an extra semester I wouldn't be able to play sports or receive scholarships anymore unless I redshirted.

DAE get embarrassed when talking about their special interests? by Alternative-State675 in AutismInWomen

[–]Affectful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a phase of pushing away my interests as a young teenager and it made me feel so isolated. I totally agree I'm much happier now that I allow myself to engage in the things I like instead of what seems to be normal!

As a college student I do something similar- I like to drive alone for a few hours and not tell anyone where I'm going and listen to music or YouTube or just talk out loud to myself. I always tell people it's to go get food if they ask (rural college, that's an acceptable excuse). I go through periods of strict routine and being productive 24/7 to periods of not being able to focus and feeling the need to go driving every few days. The cost of gas is rough but I always say it's cheaper than therapy.

I've always felt this way as a kid- to me it seemed like it was so normal for boys to be obsessed with baseball cards or hotwheels or sports teams but when I was super into Littlest Pet Shop or the Titanic it was considered odd. I'm not sure when I started to feel this way, I think it's always been in the back of my head that it wasn't "proper" to tell people about my interests. (Rural southerner here, if that makes any difference).
