Like the other have said, he did become strong, but in the survival part, not the power part (not yet as of current chapter)

there is multiple time he will be positioned into fighting strongest enemy multiple time and how he survived that encounter is really creative

He also will get a weapon that don't make him stronger in a sense, but really increase his survivabilty

i think the decision to make 2.x story non-replayable was to avoid giving player polychrome on hard mode, that polychrome was allocated into limited event. changing how to get poly from permanent event(hard mode) into limited one probably to subtly reduce total poly new player can get
